My lap top drive just simply stopped working. When I look at the components of my computer the CD/DVD Drive comes up with a warning that it is not working (duh).

My bro thinks it will be too expensive to be worth fixing and thinks I should put the LINUX system on my laptop.

I just wanna know if I can replace the drive easy on a lap top?

Updating to the latest compaq drivers sorted mine out , mind it hadn't passed away but was very very temperamental, otherwise ebay really is the best bet . linux is excellent for keeping virus at bay, because nobody has any interest in it but windows is worth the agro I'd say.

I have no idea what your brother is on if he thinks that changing the the OS will fix a broken drive. (You can always tell a Linux enthusiast - but not a lot.)

I'd look for a replacement drive on EBay.
