Jones sewing machine won't pull up lower thread?

Can someone help, I was happily sewing with my Jones + brother vx855 sewing machine and it got blocked. After unblocking it I tried to pull the lower thread up as usual to resume sewing but now the thread doesn't get caught by the upper thread.
