Dixon Mower Backfires?

Ok, I'm a girl and I have no idea on the details of this mower. I just know that my husband purchased a brand new dixon riding mower for over $3000 and when he shuts it off it backfires. Is this normal? He said he doesn't know why it does that and it's done it since he brought it home so he thinks it's designed that way. Is there something wrong with the mower or is he doing something wrong or is this ok?

Thanks!

no ,its not supposed to do that.eventually it will blow the muffler apart.every gas engine burns fuel ineficiantly, some unburnt fuel passes thru into exhaust system, this is usuallly fine ,but if a source of ignition enters exhaust,BANG it ignites, common causes:air leak at exhasut manifold to head gasket.incorrect ignition timing.incorrect tappet adjustment.incorrect carb settings, carbon buildup on or in exhaust tract.if still under warrenty take it back.one final thought, stopping procedure entails throttle .back and allowing engine to idle for a few seconds before hitting killswitch.this is done?if not full throttle to kill will make it go bang.
