How can I enable my desktop to work on broadband?

I've recently changed to broadband from 56K dial-up but am unable to receive it on my desktop(nb:no promblem receiving it on my laptop).
I'm using a Speedtouch(Thomson) USB modem which uses a CD to set it up.
Everything looks fine until I go to connect then it just wont.
Any ideas please?
My computer is Compaq WinME 900M.

As you have two PCs I'd ditch the modem and buy a router with integrated ADSL modem. The you could have both PCs connected at once and not have to keep shifting the modem from one to the other.

As to your problem you haven't really given enough information.
