how to release auto hand brake?

how do you release auto hand brake on renault espace so i can change rear brake pads

have problem with handbrake stuck on when i release the handbrake brakes are still engaged

With the ignition on...card in the slot...pull the handbrake on, then, while holding it out, press the button (with the red light on), in. Release. You will hear the motor unwind and the light will go out. Handbrake is released.

Once the wheel is removed, the cable can easily be released from the actuating lever., and the caliper can be removed and pads extracted.

Problem which exists now....

How do you get the piston to retract in order to put the new pads in? There are two blind holes drilled in the piston, which suggests a service tool will be required to wind the piston in.

I confess that I gave up at this stage.
