How do I choose a universal thermostat for an old fridge?

I have a Frigidaire R1521 old 1 door fridge with inside icebox that cools strongly with thermostat bypassed. Its thermostat's capillary is missing. ebay offers many cheap universal thermostat kits with often conflicting claims and caveats about the fridge type for which they are suitable, some quote temperatures. Is good information available somewhere that can help choosing from among these?

although most stats will work as a temperature control (switching on/off the compressor),not all will work with the rotary swich calibration markings on your fridge.so you might find where as it used to run mid way setting it now might be at min setting or indead max setting to set the required temperature.for a perfect job it would be advisable to buy the correct part for the job,but if your willing to experiment with a thermometer you could try a bog standard stat.make your own mind up time!.
