Turn up injector pump on CAV injector pump on MF 184-4?

is there anyway of turning up the injector pump for more fuel? Tractor will not start without some help from ether and then it will stay running. Any help would greatly appreciated.

First turn fuel off from tank , then get a container to catch the fuel You can turn the injector pump up by taking off the small side cover on the side of the pump facing you , then loosen the two bolts on the front side turning 1/4 of a turn upwards...you will have to turn the motor over by hand by the front crankshaft nut or pto shaft while engaged ..Make sure fuel is shut off on injector pump...next turn engine almost in line with a certain one of the bolts..you will see a slot near the back of the opening...take a screwdriver and pull it down a little , maybe the center of the wider space then tighten the bolts in the reverse of how you loosened them . push down too much on the slot will make the tractor smoke , up too high will result in not running . Do not over tighten the bolts . I hope this will help you. You will need to bleed the filters and the two small nuts on the side of the pump facing you, bottom first then top ..You bleed it by finding the primary pump handle and pumping it...Randy

If your pump is relatively old it is probably not developing enough pressure to pop the injectors at starting rpm. Once the engine gets up to speed it will produce enough pressure to make the injectors fire.

The injector pump needs to be over hauled and the injectors tested. You also might need new injector tips. Take your wallet along. It ain't cheap.

Sorry to say that I'm not sure what model of CAV pump you have, but it should be fitted with an "excess fuel lever" on the pump body, to use for starting purposes. It works in a similar way to the "choke" lever on older petrol engines.
You could get a local CAV agent to slightly increase the fuel delivery but not only will that ruin your fuel economy, it will probably smoke from the exhaust.
