Mondeo 2.0LX 2001 Engine Blow Back Problem i think!?

Basically the problem seems to be that when i take the Oil Filler Cap off and you put your hand over it you can feel the air blowing back onto your hand and a few little spurts of oil obviously as well, and also on the dash instrument panel a light keeps flashing which i presume is something to do with the engine as i don't have the owners manual and it's not running as smoothly as it should be. Don't want to get ripped off by local garage again so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

exesive crankcase pressure with no exesive oil use would indicate a fault with one of the valves ,this coupled with rough running would suggest u need to get your tappets checked. not expensive.as for light .it will have come on due to above fault in a convoulted way.if im right then tight valves are causing faulty fueling which is detected by lambda sensor triggering fault code and light.

Thanks for that reply, the Engine just isn't running as smoothly as it should with the problem and seems to be spluttering when it's revved up. Definately no excessive Oil Consumption though but as i said it seems to be blowing more than any other car i've ever had.

You can expect a bit of chuffing through the oil filler cap - so long as your oil consumption isn't excessive I shouldn't worry. The lamp that keeps flashing could be the engine management light - its indicating a fault that can be read by anyone with suitable diagnostic equipment, and can hopefully suggest a cure.
