I have 2 BT Freelance XD 5500's in my house. The main phone wont stop talking! The robotic voice keeps me up all night saying things like "calls will be answered in 5 rings... times two, three, four, five, six [beep], seven [beep, beep, beep], eight, nine..... [repeat 7 or 8 times, then...] calls will be answered in 7 rings" I have tried pressing buttons to disable it but nothing works, i have tried pressing buttons after the voice says a number- nothing. I have even tried turning answerphone off. It even talks when i am actually on the phone to someone! And it just randomly starts talking throughout the day. It says "calls will be answered after 7 rings" 20-30 times in a row sometimes then starts counting again. The only way i can make it stop is by unplugging it, but then the phones dont work and i cant contact anyone and nobody can contact me! I dont know what else to try, smashing it with a hammer sounds appealing. Please, PLEASE help.

mine also says message alert on message alert off incessantly. It also resets day and time for no apparent reason. Sorry it's not an answer.

Exactly the same with me . Have been onto the BT helpline twice. First time they told me to disconnect everything, including taking out batteries from the handset for an hour and then re-set. This didn't work !

Second time they told me that the base had "gone" and the only option was to buy a new one.
Only had the phone 15 months and Curry's & Argos don't seem to do them anymore.

Well, mine did the very same thing. Incessant chatter. So I disconnected it, used another phone. Several weeks later, I decided to try it again. Well blow me down! No chatter. For the past week it's been fine. Only problem though, I want to disable the ansaphone. Any ideas? Even if switched off, if the phone rings 20 rings it activates the ansaphone. Any advice would be welcomed. The manual doesn't help. Thank you.
