we had the same problem on our mk2 punto.
code reader returned allsorts of rubbish, ie glove box too full, slip ring fault,airbag sensor.
finally cured the problem on my own, the airbag ecu which is behind the centre console had got dusty, removed it cleaned the connectors with a ladies nail file, put it back together.
to clear the light you have 2 options, pay someone with a code reader or start up and shut off the car approx 10 times and bobs your uncle. i also fixed the same fault on my mates car the same.
