How to improve Gas Mileage?

I have a 1995 Ford Tarus. It is a 6 cylinder.I have got as much as 36 miles per gallon on the freeway using cruise control at 55 miles per hour. In town I only get 13, 14 0r 15. It has 68000 miles on the car. When I bought the car it had 62000 on it. The plugs & plug wires were changed at 50000 miles according to previous owner's maintenance records. Is there any way I can improve this in town mileage?.....James

Hard to say but plugs should be replaced about every 30,000 miles and new fueal filter ect....make sure the overdrive is working and the rest is up to you .....no hard excels...coast when possible check timing and air pressure regular ...alot of stop and go traffic eats it up also ........sometimes its just the beast of the burden ..........
