Keeps failing to start !!!?

Hi my V reg Renault Laguna keeps failing to start. It ticks over nicely so i know its not the battery, if i leave it for a few hours and change the battery in the key fob it seems ok again (maybe coincidental), problem is i am changing the batteries every fortnight now. It is driving me insane just dont know what the problem is or how to stop it happening. Theres no pattern to the problem it could be fine after any distance of driving then it just wont start. It could be first thing in the morning and it hasn't moved for 12 hours, it could be raining or dry, night or day. When it finally starts up again theres no sign there was ever a problem until it happens again without warning. Someone please help before i go crazy.....Arrrgggghhhhh !!!!!!!!

Hello Melanie: Were you able to fix the problem? I have the same problem with my 2003 Renault Laguna. I bought it a month ago. The day it was handed over to me, it just wont start. It stayed in the streets for two days and wont start. I had it towed only to start when unloaded at the dealer's yard. Diagnostics said it had an open circuit and had it repaird. Since then, i used the car for 4 weekends only as I always leave it
in the airport for a week and use it to drive home. I worked in the desert here in Saudi Arabia. Last week, after driving around 70kms, I parked it and went inside the mall, after 15 minutes I went back to drive it and there it just wont start. The usual ray of lights come on when the keycard is inserted, fades out except for the immbolizer. To tell you, the keycard i have is already damaged, you can hear sounds when you shake it, it is taped (scoth tape) as there is a crack at rear side. Dont you think this is the main fault? The card was reprogrammed at the dealer and it start. However, the mechanics prefer to have it replaced so as not to have the same problem again! I love the car but it makes me crazy that each time I stop it makes me scared that it will not start again! Just like you said, its almost driving me crazy!

Help me out or anyone out there?!

Your problem may be the key fob. As well as locking all doors it cuts off the fuel supply. I would suggest that you try only locking your doors with the key and opening again with the key. Do this after the vehicle has been running OK.

Let me know how you get on at edbrennan2003@yahoo.co.uk

Hi Melanie, most intermitant starting faults on renault's is the Crankshaft position sensor (it's renaults best selling spare part!!) it only takes ten minutes to replace and cost's from "Eurocarparts" around £25 dealer price £45 it's mounted on the top of the engine at the joint between the engine and gearbox, two bolts and an electrical connector.
