Ford Escort Mk5 locking mechanism?

I have a 5 door 1996 Ford Escort. It seems that the locking mechanism on my front passenger side door is broken. Just to clarify, it seems to be the locking mechanism not the key lock itself. Basically I am unable to open the passenger side door since the locking mechanism seems to be jammed in the locked position. This has the side effect that due to the central locking. Everytime any of the other 3 doors is opened they lock again automatically within about a second. How can I get to the doors locking mechanism to solve the problem without being able to open the door? Can anyone help me? Thanks
