Door sensor on my Ford escort?

How do I turn off my door sensor (the beeping noise when I open the door) on my 1996 Ford Escort?

Dear Mr Remson,
I have a 97 escort and have asked myself the same question, but the beeper is a device that is designed to save you the headache of locking your keys in your vehicle or leaving the headlights on and returning to a dead battery. If the sensor is beeping outside of these conditions, then you may have an actual problem with the switch itself. In other words, the car may think that lights are being left on or that the keys are being left in the ignition and is beeping when any of the doors are ajar. I found in my 97 escort, that there are two such beepers that are wired at the ignition area itself, i.e. one for the ignition key and one that would indicate that the headlights are being left on. Both, however seem to be triggered by the absence or presence of the key in the ignition. Make sure that all of the lights are off and that the key is absent from the ignition and see if it beeps. If it does, then you probably have a problem with the switch, itself. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience replacing such a switch and can only hope that someone who does will answer but it may be a good idea to get a Haynes or Chilton manual to your car. I hope this helps some.
