What can knocking on the front N/S be?

I have a Ford Mondeo MK2 and there is a knocking sound coming from the front n/s wheel suspention area. It only happens when you exselarate from still it basicly sounds like two pices of metal hitin each other but i cant find anything rong. I woul be greatfull for any help you can give thanks.

chances are are broken mainspring,common fault on mondeos as the are so heavy on the front.jack the car up and use a torch to inspect it,it should all be in one piece.
