code 2nd key to 2001 Ford Focus?

I have a 2001 Ford Focus TDI. I bought it with only one key. I then bought a new fob (the bit with the buttons) from ford and got a new key cut, but I cant seem to programme this second key to the car, so that if I lose the original I will have a spare. Can anyone help?
