Just bought new one today ( 31 August 2009 ) from B & Q and only paid £84 . My wife has used it for 2 hours and is already well impressed.

its probably the felt pads ....cost couple of pounds ...i just replaced mine! takes about 20 mins if you are handy

could be faulty drum or front bearing.would need to totally dismantle to service.as for paying someone to repair it i would personally buy a new one as they arn't that expensive.
