Renault Megane Scenic fuel pump or CPU problem?

Hi all,
I'm having real trouble with my '98 R reg Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 RT.

I've had very rare occasions where the car just refused to fire up but be fine again 10 minutes later. This became more often until it started cutting out while driving (then again refusing to start)

I know Renaults immobilisers have a habit of sticking but I've hopefully bypassed/ruled this out with the manual override (dash board button code trick) but still not starting. Plugs, leads and battery are all new but there's no smell of petrol when trying to start. Any ideas if this may be fuel pump related or electrical and the best way to check? Thanks!

The crank sensor and connector is a common problem for which a modified sensor and connector can be obtained from your dealer, a small modification to the two supply wires and you should have no further problems from this item

Try the TDC sensor - prone to fail and similiar symptoms

Hi, i have a 1999 megane scenic and recently the cambelt snapped and ended up doing what it usually does. After pricing all the bits up i worked out i would'nt get much change out of £500. So i then managed to find the exact engine with really low mile on for £200. I bought it and fitted it and went really well, now i try to fire it up and it turns over but dont fire up. There is a spark and the smell of fuel running through. Does any1 no what else to try?

Hi not sure if you sorted out the problem but it sounds exactly the same as the one i had on an s reg of the same vehicle this year, car stopped for no apparent reason randomly over a number of months until it finally gave up in september, a nice AA man who towed me home said it sounded like a fuel pump problem, and once home proved this to be the case by removing the rear right passanger seat to access the pump where by he tapped the cover with a hammer then started the car without any problem, i noted that you could actually hear the pump running and that whilst the car was ticking over if you tapped the lid you could stop and start the pump, the AA man recomended a new pump be fitted but owing to the cost i could not afford to have a garage do the work, but purchased a second hand one and decided to fit myself since i had a haines manual which details this operation quite well, this has been done and the car now runs perfectly, however i am currently in the process of sending photos of the faulty pump back to renault and asking if they should not be recalling vehicles with this pump, you see the reason it was working intermittantly was that one of the terminals had corroded away and was brushing against the remainder of the pump terminal, i showed my dad and we both believe that it was only good fortune that stopped the terminal arcing and igniting a tank full of fuel under me and my family, if you still have the problem or have sold the car on please get it checked out or notify the new owner.

ther is a sensor on the top of the fly wheel which cna be easiey got to with a ten mil spanner, take it off and clean it with meths then replace and try again to start. the sensor sends a signal to the ecu so it knows when to spark, if it is dirty it doesnt send the signal and the ecu doesnt do its thing. mine started with same problems especial when trying to start when warm. cleaning this sensor sorted my problem.
