Have a briggs and stratton engine 17.5 hp on ride on mower. The push rods are loose and not tight, this is causing it to not start can anyone tell me the problem and solution to this thanks.

Thnaks for that john, there is no adjustment on the on the rockers on this unit and the play is more than while in operation. So I will have to go and check the crankshaft.

Thanks again Derek.

On an over head valve engine, there should be a time where the pushrods have a fraction of free play - this is the clearance expansion, required when the engine heats up. If your clearance is excessive, there should be adjustment at the rocker arms in the form of a screw and locknut. If you can't adjust things out, it indicates severe valve or camshaft problems.
