Please note the spring has not been fitted incorrectly it should be on the left hand side of the motor in a near vertical position. The picture everyone has been following from this site: www.wikihow.com showing the belt is fed round the black tensioner wheel and motor is wrong! The spring should not be changed, as then the belt will potentially be rubbing on the electirc wires.

The belt should go round the drum, now following the belt down the left hand side of the drum, it should then go straight under the motor shaft fitting on the grooves, then round the left hand side of the black tensioner wheel, then back up round the right hand side of the drum. This will then pull the motor in the other (correct) direction putting tension on the spring in the correct direction.

changing the spring round will not help keep the spring on the left where it was looking from the back of the dryer
1) make sure the the electric wires are on the top of the motor and the spring is still attached to the motor on the left hand side .
2) put the belt round the drum and the motor so the rigid side is on the drum and round the motor.
3) now the tensioner people always think the the rigid side need to press by the tensioner but NO make sure that the flat side of the belt touches the tensioner.i did this and it works perfectly after 2 days of looking into it

Changing the spring from left to right side of motor is not the answer. Peter ET has the solution which is so simple.

1) take full back panel partially off (pull away from carcus) to allow belt to be put around drum from the front drum seal (you do not have to undo the spindle).

2) Once belt is on the drum make sure the flat side of the belt can be seen and the teeth side is on the drum.

3) Put belt around motor spindle.

4) Pull the motor anticlock wise so the tensioner wheel goes under the belt (you will have to lift the belt over the tensioner wheel).

5) Done

Therefore clockwise (looking from the back); the belt comes down from the drum under the moter spindle on the right hand side, up and over the tensioner wheel (which is now to the left of the moter spindle) and horizontal to the left hand side of the drum.

After several years of service my TC-470 threw its belt. On refitting, it was too slack. Having read this thread - I took a look at the spring and on my machine also the spring was pulling the tensioner pulley down (anti-clockwise) rather than up (clockwise). I undid the spring and moved it to the r.h side of the motor (instead of the left) and hey presto tension is resumed and the drier now works fine.

What on earth is going on here - did Zanussi fit a load of parts the wrong way round ?

twist the motor with the spring attach to the left clockwise , until the "other" shaft is at the 1 -2 o'clock position relative to the drive shaft. The belt is looped around the left side to the "other" shaft and then the right side of the drive shaft , then loop around the drum ( obviously) .
The pixies have NOT moved the spring from right to left in the night.

I am amzed that when people fit a new drum belt to the TC470 they believe that the spring on the motor needs to be moved from the left to the right of the motor.

All that has happened is that the belt has snapped - the spring has not mysteriously moved to the wrong side.

Looking from the back the spring should be, as you probably find it, on the left hand side of the motor.

Try fitting the belt as follows:-

I had similiar snag ref spring incorrectly refitted to left side of motor = no tension on drive belt. However, I managed reposition spring without removing motor by:

unhook sring from left side using a long thin screw driver.
Ensure spring is mounted to middle hook on base of machine under the motor (there are 3 : Left, mid, right).
Use long thing screwdriver to lift tensed sping onto silver bar
on right of motor (4 run front/back direction, approx 1.5cm long)

The problem was that I couldn't get enough tension in the new belt.

I followed the general insructions given on this site, but then had one extra step.

The spring was pulling the motor to the left - this was the wrong way to get tension. I had to remove the motor itself (4 screwbolts on the underside of the machine) then move the spring so it was connected to the right hand side of the motor. This gave the correct tension, and I replaced the motor.

Everything is now hunky dory

Sorry, I don't have a diagram, but i did fix my eventually.

Turn the motor as far anti clockwise as possible.

Pull the belt from the bottom of the drum over the top of the jockey wheel.
The belt then goes under the drive bar from the motor
