any problems with renault megane electric windows?

my son has bought a 54 reg megane and the drivers window opened but will not close, if it is the regulator the garage say they will not repair it, only if its the motor is this an inherent fault. The passenger side will now only open a little way.
anne, July 2008
The drivers side rear window was stuck closed, wouldn't even move when using the centre button or when the roof was sent into the boot on my wife's 2.0L 2005 megane Monaco convertible. I took some advice and using a 6inch metal ruler prized the side panel open then with a long screwdriver unclipped the panel. Behind the foam at the bottom you will find the motor and connections with difficulty you can unclip the connector, spray some wd40 inside the connector and if you can on the pins. Waited 1 hour and it works just fine now. Try this before spending a fortune on parts.

Steve P from cardiff, August 2015
My offside rear window on my 06 megane variously jammed down. I took off the rear panel to find the temic and motor TOTALLY inaccessible due to a metal cross strut not shown on the instruction video. After much swearing I simply soaked it all in WD40 and wobbled what wiring I could see with a long screwdriver. Hey Presto it now works.

andy farrell, March 2015
Hi, all

I also have had this with my passenger side window, it as soaking wet so i managed to dry it out and now sealed the whole unit within a plastic bag, i also covered it all within grease (the motor and regulator) first before sealing it within the plastic bag.

Its also worth noting to help with the water ingress from the window and soaking the wndow motor (regulator) is to give a good wipe to the window strip seal with a dose of fairy liquid, it will remove all the filth and re-plenish the seal and help with letting the water getting through.

i hope this helps.

Renault never again (53 megane cabriolet)

rooneygmusic, March 2014
My 2004 renault megane which passed Mot a month ago just died in the middle of the road saying Electric Fault. It started by drivers windows not going up, doesn't start the first time, noticed water coming in through the window. The garage need 60£ before they can even look what's wrong with it although I have been advised to scrap it as it will cost me arm and leg to fix.!!!! Am very angry with the renault and as for now after seeing all these posts am scrapping the shit. Better off walking!!!!!

Mercia, December 2013
99% of window faults are related to the temic module.
this sites tell you how to remove it and get it repaired.

i have found this great little module replacement on ebay and it is a fantastic piece of kit.
it is half the size of the original module and seems totally waterproof.
it got my windows on my mark 2 renault megane working again.

Had a flat battery and after jump starting the car was unable to open the windows on the car with one press of the button.
Followed the thread regarding opening the window by constantly pressing the button until fully open and then hold the switch down for 10 seconds. Repeat the process closing the window and all now working fine.
Repeat the process for all the other windows.

Martin, July 2013
My drivers window was stuck and would not close. Contacted Renault Cardiff and received no help whatsoever. Tried the 25A fuse removal and double lock-Did not work. Then raised the botton in the close position and banged the speaker several times with my other hand. It now works fine. Saved ££££'s. thank you very much for the info. Will never buy another Renault!

Lewis2035, June 2013
tried the mini cube and had to get them replaced twice.the first one lasted a week and the second one lasted 1 month so beware unless you are happy enough to keep ripping the door panel off which can be a nightmare.
i wouldnt recommend the mini cube option but my friend bought a replacement module from ebay for £22.99 which has lasted alot longer and still working and seems to be a far better job and even came with a mobile number to call if he got stuck.
i will be purchasing the same as him next time if this 3rd cube packs up.
ebay item number 221195398604 is the part to purchase

So frustrating... Happened to my 10year old megane at 12am last night... The 40Amp fuse trick worked for me - wish i found this post before ripping off the door panel and breaking things in my moment of frustration. :) My father in law told me not to buy a renault!!! Hate it when he's right.

Gonna try the MiniCube to see if it works...

Matt, April 2013
Would like to thank everyone for ideas. my rear passenger window came down yesterday for second time for no reason , tried the fuse and deadlocking it worked Thankyou

sharongc, March 2013

I have a Megane 2004 had nothing but trouble with Windows & Locks. 2yrs ago I contacted a David Mullins at Megane who was most helpful he arranged for work to be done at Renault's expense, these faults occurred several times each time I managed to get Renault to pay. Now the problems have yet again occurred, they refuse to cough up again even though the Window mechanism is faulty(due to water getting in) they want £100 for each window to be fixed. I have now written to CEO having read so many complaints here re the Window problems something needs to be done urgently, Renault are at fault here and should recognize this and repair & modify all units forthwith, anyone want to start a Facebook page, I would but not up to speed with Facebook, failing that they should be taken to court.

Roger Smith, October 2012
Hi All

I had to have my Renault Scenic battery replaced as the Car was not starting correctly even though there was no battery alarm and then I had the problem whereby the Window would only open/close an inch or two a time.

The Fix on this site and update by Ashley Webb worked a treat , Thanks Everybody.

Keep pressing the button to get it all the way down, once it is all the way down, hold the button down for 30 seconds.
Then do the same shutting the window. Keep pressing the button until it is all the way up, then hold the button up for 30 seconds.

Garry Murphy, October 2012
many thanks just read your foram found the green reset on the end of the plug, plug refitted now window functions renault should be taken to court this is after x3 window mechanism replacements

spanner, September 2012
ok the magic green reset button you do all know this is not a reset button but a blank to stop water getting into the connecting block where there is no wire and by pushing it in could allow more water to enter and cause more damage than good, i to have window problems and by stripping down the door panels and trying the good drivers side module on the not working passenger side window i now have both front windows not working so i give up and put all back together and now the back passenger not working too and i never touched anything to do with the back windows my guess is i got water deep inside the window wiring circuit and the only fix will be a whole re-wire :-(

simon monk, August 2012
try "https://sites.google.com/site/proluxelectronics/how-to",
it shows you how to remove the door panel, and repair the temic module.

great item, very cheap and easy to fit and this guy knows what he is talking about

jackie, August 2012
they open sometimes and they close sometimes,
i have had the same issue on and off for years
i have taken the door apart and found the inside soaked
my exterior rubber at the bottom of the window leaked in water which shorts out the motor when it dries out again it works
i am in the process or tracking down new rubbers and hopefully this will stop the problem

sarah, August 2012
My driver window got stuck half way. I tried removing the fuse and deadlocking the doors but it didn't work so with one hand I held the switch up and with the other banged the door at the bottom right of the speaker grill several times and hey presto. Temporary fix but worth doing.

Dave, July 2012
Anybody fancy making a facebook page on this? I would take it to court seeing as tho I have a 3mth warranty on my 2005 dynamique and been told if it's a fault they know about they will contribute 76% but if not then I'll be out of pocket somewhere!! Hell no!! I've had the car for 1 month!! Don't think so!! My back passenger window has been stuck for 2 weeks, wouldn't budge at all, I get in the car last night and hey presto it's working!! Why, I do not know and was booked into renault for 2moro, will have to pay £49.99 for diagnostic anyway to be told wot?? It was damp?? Lol i don't know whether to take it or not now to be on the safe side!! I really can't afford to get it fixed tho!!

Gina, July 2012
I've just got the problem of a window not closing on my 05 grand scenic 1.9 Dynamique; nothing happened when I hit the switch. I think I may have made a mistake by pulling the glass into the closed position ( have I pulled it out of it's hoist thing?) as after trying the fuse remove and replace/ double lock I can now hear something working but it isn't moving the glass :( now looking for how to remove the door panel. I might just be within a three month warranty but am not confident. When I bought it the garage owner said he'd replaced the timing belt and topped up all of the fluids. A week later I thought that I was in trouble on finding the coolant just below minimum and the screen wash empty..as well as minimum oil - but since I've filled them up myself they have remained the same: So, Is the cam belt replacement also fiction?? When I'd pointed out the worn tyres, before I bought it, he assured me that anything that failed the MOT would be sorted; he got around that by passing the car with the tyres being mentioned on an advisory note - one of them was definitely illegal. Anyway, I digress! Appreciate all of the good advice on this thread..will soldier on :l

Steanie, June 2012
We have a Migraine 1.5dci Dynamique and have just had the battery replaced which left the passanger front electric window dead. After trying the many varied remedies on this forum I took the green 40 amp fuse out, did the 2 deadlock clicks put the fuse back in which got the window going down 2" at a time then held the button up for 10 secs and hey presto! Many thanks for everyone's comments. There's always a solution. :-)

Paul, June 2012
why worry renault now rectify all electric window problems for a 24% contribution on all meganes up to 10 years old and under 100k
refer to your dealer.the 10 year period has only been in place for a few weeks

MIKE BLAENAU, June 2012
I am so grateful I found this page. Thank you. I have just come off the telephone from the dealer that I left my car with and am fuming! My rear windows went down on their own, at different times, and I was sure it was down to the water problem in the car, which they didn't have a clue about either. When it rained water poured all over my shoes and there was more water, and ice, inside the car than on the outside. The seats and interior were getting mouldy. I tried clearing the ducts under the winscreen wiper (which you cannot remove) and water did come out. I was sure the electrical problem with the windows was caused by the water. When I took it to the garage they said it is the regulators, £250 each. They said they would try and get reconditioned ones. Left it with them. Collected the car and now one of the windows go down while the others go up. Also said on the dashboard "roof mechanism problem". Took it back, the roof was working fine before. They have now said that they were given two right hand solonoids. I said you told me it was the regulators. He denied all of it. He tried to put the problem back to me and said he doesn't deal with roof problems. I told him he caused the roof problem, it was fine when I took it in. Also, I noticed that when trying to put the roof down, it was going down without the mesh that you pull across to stop it in case anything is in the boot. They have totally messed the car up. He told me there was no way the windows would just go down on their own. So reading all the above, you have all been a great help to me. Thank you. I will take some of the valued advice above.

Dee, June 2012
Hi I've got a Renault Grand Scenic 1.9DCi on a 2004 plate. I bought it second hand a couple of years ago and its just one thing after another. Its just eating money. I wish I'd bought japanese or german. Definately not buying Renault again.
I need your advice please!
Recently whilst driving the kids about the back passenger side window lowered itself. I tried to raise it but to no avail. I managed to pull the window up manually but as I drove it would fall again.
There is no noise coming from the electric motor. I had recently driven through some torrential rain.
I jammed the window open by ramming some paper in between the window and he seal on the inside. I have heard something drop as i raised the window again. I have crammed another piece of paper to keep the window wedged up. This seems to have done the trick for now.
Please advise on what to do.
Will Renault help?
Worse still, I'm serving in Germany at the moment and Garages jut see squaddies as an easy target.
I await your advice and guidance.
Sid

Sid K, June 2012
Told by Renault dealer that Renault had extended their help with cost on this problem to ten year old meganes. He had an extra mail only this week. I think he said cost would now be about eighty pound per window

john, June 2012
I have a 2004 Renault Megane with the same issue on the drivers side window, it has stuck down now and it did it all by itself when it was in a supermarket carpark. I have contacted two local Renault dealers and they have both said...."Oh yes, it's a fault of that particular model"! Oh and yes it's past the 7 years when we cared about it! Oh and it will cost you nearly £70 for a diagnostic test (on something they already know about!) and possibly a further £400 to put it right depending on what it is. This is quite a scam Renault considering it was your design fault in the first place.....I believe you should fix this design fault of yours for free - or for at least a minimal fee. I certainly wont be buying another Renault car....ever! What the don't care Renault dealer garages also said is that it would be at least 2 weeks before they could repair it anyway ..... it's pouring with rain now and the window, due to a known Renault fault is stuck down!!!!!!!

A very annoyed customer from Cheshire!!!, June 2012
The green pin is NOT a reset button, it's a blanking plug!!!

iknowbest, June 2012
After a trip out in the car to the supermarket today, i returned home and could not get the ns rear window to close, it was stuck in fully open position! If only the air con in my 54 plate magane dynamique had been more effective then i would'nt of needed the windows open in the first place! This is the 3rd window to be at fault after both front windows failing on previous occasions, but now my car is over the 7 year mark, for the 75% discount, i called customer services and spoke to a very helpfull guy, who took all the info and said he would speak to my dealer to see if there was anything, or good gesture they could do to help, as this is the 3rd time its happened! After waiting much of the afternoon i was called back and advised they could look at the car on thursday, today being monday!!!! once the have the car, they can get the window up for and hours labour plus vat, or put a new regulator in for approx £350! no good will gesture as car over 7 years old, although mileage less than 60k! My husband decided to take the door apart after work, and not wanting to pay another penny for their faulty windows, we tried all the fuse and double locking with no joy! so took off the door panel, a few sprays of wd40, nothing! even found the green tic tac button mentioned in the thread, still nothing! then we took apart the main regulator motor and managed to turn the mechanism CLOCKWISE by hand and this gradully raises the window back up! we didnt connect the motor back up as didnt want the same thing to happen again, so far so good, although the window is not in use, we can live with this , rather than give away and more hard earned cash to renault!

pixie, May 2012
Having the same issue as most of you are experiencing. Had loom replaced on drivers window , now similar issue on rear window, just completely drops for no reason, can't get it to go back up but will occasionally go back at it's own will.
Reading other posts I am keen to try to rectify myself, first things first, I need to remove the door panel, never having done any remedial work on the car or any car how easy is this?

Matt, May 2012
hi to all thanks for your help followed your instructions and the window is working now it had been stuck half open so i took off the door panel and took off the connection block and the rest of the relay unit off the window motor found it was wet inside took off the tape around the unit and opened it so i could see the inside as well got the hair dryer and dried all the pieces put them back together put new tape around the unit and hit the reset button connected it all back together re set the window and it is working great your information saved me a fortune thanks a lot

mullagh man, May 2012
Today I pressed the lock button twice (dead/double-lock) on my key fob...big mistake as rear passenger went down on its own accord. I followed the procedure to remove the door panel, then pressed green reset button as there seemed to be no dampness in this regulator connector...not a solution for my issue. This is something that may help extra to what I have read...it has closed the window but there is no functionality to close or open now...I'm expecting this will maybe cure itself suddenly/miraculously from what I have read here! So, I removed the connector from the regulator, gave the wires a wiggle & a firm push in, reconnected to the regulator, closed all doors on the car then dead/double-locked it...it moved up approx 5cms. Strangely enough just re-trying the dead/double-locking was NOT enough...stupidly each time I had to remove the connector, wiggle & push it firmly then dead/double-lock with the doors closed. At least I have the window closed and secure...for now!! Hope this works for someone else.

Phil from Barnoldswick, May 2012
06 Scenic drivers window stopped working. Reno garage charged £150 to renew window motor then told me window would only work when door fully open. The window would only move an inch at a time with the door open. They said I needed further wiring changed and whole dash needed to come out and will cost £1'600 !!! Had a look at the connector in the door frame and it's soaking wet under the rubber cover. I unclipped the door frame connector and found one of the connector pins had eroded and was stuck inside the female door connector. Using tweezers the pin was pulled out a bit and now the window works as normal.

The Sale of Goods Act states that any product should meet 3 criteria;

1 - as described,
2 - of satisfactory quality,
3- be fit for the purpose for which it is intended.

By any standard windows that don’t open DO NOT meet this act. Not to mention the window seals which let in so much water the electrics can’t cope.

It’s about time Renault were taken to court on this matter, they seem to rely on the fact that consumers don’t want the added hassle. I for one will simply vote with my feet and warn anyone else I know to 'steer' clear!

P.S. Wouldn’t it be a smashing ‘gesture of good will’, if Renault had one of their ‘experts’ post basic instructions for fixing this problem. Then those who didn’t want to pay for the correction of a problem which should not occur in the first place, would not have to rely on the labors of fellow suffers.

Mad as hell!, April 2012
My drivers window in my Megane is no longer working and becuase my car is 7 years and 3 months old I am not able to be provided any financial support for the costs to fix it! Dont know how to raise this complaint further as its clearly a design issue any leads?

Richard, April 2012
Megane electric widow problems are caused by Water/moisture thats for sure. I have just fixed both my front windows after reading your letters, Thankyou very much. Dont pay them robbers if you dont have to thats my advice . My windows would not go up or down ,so i took off the door panel and found that it was soaking wet on the looms and the regulator connector, dryed off with a hair dryer. Take off the tape around the regulator plug at the bottom and disconnect the plug ,dryed with the dryer inside. Turn the plug over and you will see a small green button , push it in with your finger as this is a reset button which trips when wet and there was nothing wrong with the regulator at all. Switch on the ignition an try your window mine worked after doing this procedure , good luck. The other door i only took off the speaker cover and removed the speaker after studying the first time I struggled to removed the tape but managed to press the green button and do the job with my hand through the speaker hole I also put the dryer through the speaker hole to dry it all off, and that worked but you will need to be patient.

I have a 53 plate Megane, had to replace the Battery, and had the same issue with drivers side rear window, came down about 1/4 inch, tried removing/replacing 40 & 25 amp fuss, did double lock restarted & window went up, well done & big thanks to that suggestion!

Hobbit, April 2012
Hi Homanix,

I'm having trouble trying to find Minky58's post in March 08, what the questions called?

Thanks,

Will, April 2012
I have had the same issue as many: driver's window no longer working on a 08 Megane. While taking it for service, I attempted to have this fixed. To my surprise, the 4year extended warranty or the 75% contribution mentioned below were now replaced by only 62% contribution. Which turned into a juicy £250 quote for regulator + loom. I told them to get lost. Spent one afternoon dismantling the door (tricky), dried with hair dryer, brushed contacts with sand paper and covered with silicone: everything now work as before.
Not happy with Renault's attitude. I would have gone to trading standards or Which if not managed to fixed myself.

Not happy, March 2012
Hi Will,

Have a look at minky58's post at the bottom of the page for march 08. I forgot to add that I usually have to do this as well when i 'reset' the tick tac.

Good luck!

Scratch that....

I just tried it again and the window appeared to work again like usual however will come down by itself again when it wants to and am still hearing the clicking noise when the window is fully open! (argh!)

The 'green tick tack' shaped trip wire has now disappeared, any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi Holmanix,

Thanks for coming back with your answer.
I tried exactly what you said and pushed the 'green tick tack' shaped trip switch back in as far as it goes (it has now disappeared into the compartment).

This has however seemed to create a different problem, my window now only goes up and down about 2 inches at a time.

The window hasn't come down by itself (yet) so that problem could be fixed, I will let you know.

I'm hoping the window just now needs resetting, any suggestions?

Will, February 2012
I have had probs with a burning smell in my car-07 scenic. I have been charged £120 by independent garage to diagnose fault and remove faulty window regulator and loom- took it to Reno garage they will take 62percent off the regulator making it £87ish but won't discount the wiring loom £57ish and want to charge £100 & VAT to repair £290 total. Surely this can not be right? If it's a fault it should be paid and fixed at 100 percent cost to Reno- it is a joke! I want to take issue further
but not sure where to go from here.? Watchdog?? If it's a fault they shud fix it in full and I am even more annoyed as my 2yr old child has been sat right next to this melting part the smell of plastic was extremely strong cant help but think it may have caught fire next to my child as the Part has melted! So angry!

Laura, February 2012
Has anybody taken Renault to the small claims court? Clearly Renault should pay 100% of repair cost (not 62% which it has gone down to now!!). My wife has a megane registered in 2008, it's done 24000 miles and both front windows have these problems. I refused to pay 38% as i do not feel these windows are fit for purpose. It will cost me £300 to fix windows, and if water ingress is the cause I'll have to pay again and again and again....customer services at renault are a joke. why do some people on the thread feel renault are great for offering to pay a proportion of the cost?

alexev, February 2012
This happens regularly on my wife's car ( 2005 megane hatchback). Take the door panel off and then disconnect the conector block from the window motor. Next, remove the tape from around the connector block and take a look at the side that the wires go in. You should see an empty slot at pin two with what looks like a green 'tic-tac' poking out. This is some sort of trip switch. Push it back into the block as far as it will go and recconect it to the motor regulator. It should start working again!!!. Also, once the tape is removed, you can reset it by taking the speaker out and fumbling about a bit rather than taking the door panel off each time. I rekon I have to reset this about two or three times every winter, but it's a damn sight cheaper then what renault charge!

Holmanix, February 2012
I have a Renault Megane, 3 door, 53 plate.
My drivers side window seems to have been playing up for the last 3 months now.
The window would open by itself (sometimes the whole way down, or just inch by inch, almost like it had a mind of its own) and would stay open.
Sometimes you can close the window but 10 seconds later it will come down again, and so on...
I found that double locking the car would bring the window up and the window would then shut fully, (however this doesn't always seem to work!).
I tried unplugging the switch, however this doesn't seem to work as the window still comes down even without it in! When the window is fully open you can here a clicking in the window as if it is trying to open even more.
I have also tried taking off the speaker and checking for an obvious problem, but I am literally baffled as to what it is, can someone help?!

Will, February 2012
Thank you to all on this forum who suggested the fuse in / out double lock it took me a while to master as I tried the 25amp several times without any success but just as I was about to give up and just leave the black bag over the window to stop the snow getting in I saw the suggestion to try the 40amp Andy rear passenger window is now up. Whilst it still leaves me with 2 windows (front drivers & passenger rear) that don't work but at least for now are closed.

Thanks everyone!

Laura, February 2012
A big thank you to all who have left advice on this site. We went to Stratford today, when we got back to the car (Megane 05 plate) the rear near side window was fully open and we couldn't get it back up. Checked out the internet and found this site. Husband is now outside removing fuse and locking and unlocking car. Needless to say, the window appears to be closing, inch by inch. Again thank you.

Sarah - Burntwood, Staffordshire, January 2012
For all those folk where the window only opens/closes an inch or two a time.
Keep pressing the button to get it all the way down, once it is all the way down, hold the button down for 30 seconds.
Then do the same shutting the window. Keep pressing the button until it is all the way up, then hold the button up for 30 seconds.
This should fix the problem.
Your windows usually go like that when the battery has been disconnected.

Ashley Webb, December 2011
I have a Megane II last winter my passenger window refused to go down and I just left it as it was fully up. Last week my driver window stuck part way down and I managed to repair both windows myself. I removed the speaker and put my hand inside the door panel, at the bottom there is a large connector powering the regulator and this was the cause of the problem. After adjusting this the window kicked into life andd both are fully operationally now. I believe I have saved myself a fortune by taking a look at the problem myself now all I have to do is improve the seal around the windows as I found some dampness in there.

Lee, November 2011
Mine went about 2 months ago' it was the rear drivers side, got someone to look at it, he fixed it, so it worked again.

This morning I came out and found window down and there was torrential rain all night so everything was saturated.

Tried the double lock which used to work....nothing
Tried fuse suggestion....nothing
Tried battery suggestion....nothing

Now I'm stuck as to what it is and Renault want to put through diagnostics test and then charge for part if needs replacing......Any suggestions in the meantime as I have to collect my kids tomorrow and will be stuck indoors.....HELP!!!

Kraig, November 2011
Did the 40 amp trick but it only worked for me after also taking the 25 amp fuse out. 25 amp fuse out and in, double lock, window goes up two inches and repeat

I own a Megane 1.6 estate, passenger window dropped and refused to go up. Took advice from this thread and saved myself £250 (bill from driver's window doing the same). First class advice guys, but last time I buy Renaault.

Yet another! Just bought an 03 Scenic 2 to discover the window and dash problems. Broken clips on rear windows easy fix so that it OK. Front left window motor works, have not found out how to test the switch and interchanging with rear windows switch did not work as connectotr different.. The dash repair by Renault is however a con. My car was originally supplied by a car warehouse and not a Renault dealer and therefore is not covered by their repair option. It beats me - built and supplied by Renault, no different than any Renault supplied by their dealers but exempt from this repair to what is a poorly designed and built car. Have just disuaded my neighbour who was thinking of buying a Renault from doing so. Poor quality and service means death to companies who are cr*p in products and service.

Try ebay uk,item number 220819917829. I have purchased and fitted these units before and they saved me a fortune.
He is very helpful and knows his stuff about these windows and he might even post to Australia

I own a 2004 Megane in Australia with a low 57000 km on the clock. For the fifth time Ive had a window fail and the local dealers want the equivalent of U.S $740.00 for the regulator. The first three fixed under warranty, the next cost about $450.00 fitted, and now it will cost $850.00. Angry doesnt even start to describe how I feel about Renault.

David, July 2011
it did cost me £96 as my 25% contribution

wullie1605, June 2011
I had the same on my megane c.c. fought customer service and got £100 good will as my nearest garage was 56 miles away. the car was sitting outside the house with roof down and very nearly went on fire. The back window did the same last year.

wullie1605, June 2011
It's a chronic problem both with the new and older model Meganes. My sister had a Megane Scenic, and had to have all 4 window controllers replaced under warranty - all at different times. Because it's chronic, they're almost impossible to find used, and new ones are very expensive! It's not the motors - it's the control electronics.

Peter Johnson, June 2011
Both front windows of my 54 reg megane have stopped working and Renault dealers have a backlog of the regulators/motors on order due to supply difficulties from Japan.

As I'm unable to get them replaced before an upcoming long driving holiday touring the continent, my local garage showed me how to get the door panel off (Haynes manual failed miserably) and I've established that the motors work but the control modules appear to be dead.
I've rigged up a simple circuit with switches from Maplin Electronics and a few other bits that worked on a test bench and are now installed in the car. It was quite a simple job for this poor OAP who grew up with model railways in the 1960s.
Basically it's a Double Pole Double Throw switch with centre off position connected in series with a pushbutton non-locking switch with suitable cable to two tiny spade terminals on the motor. Power is supplied to the switch(es) by using Scotchlock connectors to get it from the lead that normally plugs into the electronic control module attached to the motor. The switches are mounted in a small box which I’ve temporarily pushed into the compartment with lids in the doors.
DPDT switches are normally used for reversing direction of travel of 12 volt model railways.
This switch is different in having a centre off position and only applying voltage whilst in either on position.
Putting the push-and-hold for ‘on’ switch in series means that it is easier to let go of the button when the window reaches the required position than just relying on switching the DPDT switch to its ‘off’ position and when that switch is in the centre off position there is an extra safety factor preventing accidental movement of the window.
This is important because a locking-on switch would strip the gears when the window reaches top or bottom and the motor continued to turn, or burn out the motor.
There is a danger with my arrangement that someone’s fingers could get trapped when the window goes up so it might not pass Health and Safety rules. The electronic module senses the extra load and cuts off the supply when the window gets to top or bottom or there is an obstruction.
It should do the job on a temporary basis until my return in july when I may try to get something a bit more sophisticated made up. The parts used so far should cost less than £20 per window. Anyone with basic soldering skills will be able to do the same and those who cannot solder could use Lucar spade connectors instead.
I'm not brilliant with electronics, having given up when simple transistor circuits were replaced by unnecessarily complicated integrated circuits, but I might be able to research enough to provide the current sensing that will, with relays, cut off the voltage to the motor when it meets an unusual resistance like top or bottom or fingers. Using relays should also enable the original switches to be used and the whole gubbins hidden within the door, though it would add to the cost.
Possibly with the hints I've given someone else with more experience of electronic circuits could also have a go and provide a suitable circuit that any electronics amateur could build. I would hope that a kit of parts should cost well under £50 with a ready built one not costing much more than £20 extra if a hobbyist can be found to undertake the assembly in his spare time.
If there is interest I'll take some pictures of my assembly while I’m installing it, though I’m not sure how to upload them to the site someone else put pictures on for us to see.
I’ve created an email address ‘meganewindowathotmail.co.uk’ if anyone wants to contact me or wants me to email pictures I've taken while doing the job to them (time permitting).

my drivers side window on 07 dynamich wouldnt come down, now 2wks later passenger side is stuck down, tried fuses etc, took it to evans halshaw they said renault would pay 75% of cost leaving £80 per window to pay, bit extortionate £640 normaly.however due to the tsami there was a 4month waiting list for parts to come. they did however close my passenger window, but when i got car home central locking would non work.

I too am unfortunate to own a Renault Megane 05 estate my windows have been playing up for the last couple of months.Seems they have a mind of their own and open and close when they feel like!! 3 of my windows are not workin properly 1st time we had to take the door apart and the motor out, only from readin here i have realised its a well known problem, tryed the fuse thing didnt work, and holdin the button didnt work today i went shoppin and when i came out the passenger window was open! thought i was goin mad.Eventually after giving the dooor a good whack we got the window up.Surely Renault should be fixing this for free? I do think its water gettin in as this happens more when it rains.I have now had to take the fuses out to stop it happening till i can get it fixed. Not good with Summer coming up gonna cost me a fortune to use the air con!! So the moral is never buy a Renault!!!!

chrissyp, May 2011
I too have just had this problem on a 5 and a half year old Renault Megane cc. Renault customer support were brilliant on the telephone and have agreed to pay 75% of the cost.It is now booked into my local Renault dealer for repairs tomorrow.

Yass, May 2011
2004 Renault Meganne Scenic owner (why didn't someone warn me beforehand?)
If your window sticks down and won't come back up, look through this thread and find the 'remove 40amp fuse and double lock car trick BEFORE trying to take off the door panel - it worked for me.
Rear window was stuck down. I removed the 40 amp fuse in glove compartment inside the car, placed it back in as it was not blown, and double locked (pressed lock twice on key fob) and window went up.
Renault electrics are notoriously diabolical. Renault Scenics are a joke. Here's my list since buying it two years ago:
dashboard display went down (BBC Watchdog)
Heater fan kaput!
No air con
Power steering failed
Electronic handbrake faulty
Starter pack - twice!
Never had such an unreliable car in 30 years' motoring. Never again.

Phil older and wiser, May 2011
Hi All,
First post here so be gentle....

Have a 06 Grand Scenic and was getting similar front windows remaining open / stuck problems.
Did a search on line and found threads galore about Renault and their faulty electrics.

As I am in Republic of Ireland I do not think I am covered by Renaults 7 year warranty.

So managed to follow the fuse hint and get the windows closed. Spoke with a mechanic friend of mine who suggested drying out the regulator. Managed to remove regulator and using hair dryer dried out the circuit board in the regulator. Connected it back onto motor and hey presto right as rain.

Did other side too and have had no window problems since.

Cheers,

Tom, May 2011
Just tried the trick with the 40A fuse for a rear window that opened itself when the door was locked and wouldn't go up again. Although it only went up an inch at a time it worked. Great piece of advice. Thanks

Dave, April 2011
Please bear in mind that if you have a window stuck down
(at least in a scenic 2005) there is a relay in l/h fuse box in the glovebox which gets EXTREMELY hot(maybe fire risk) -I believe it is trying to close the window -I removed the relay with no effect on the other windows. Then once I took the door panel off (there is an extra screw behind the cloth trim, then you pull and LIFT the door panel off)I unplugged the motor, replaced relay-no heat.
You can also unplug the motor ,shut door, lock, unlock and repeat to winch the window up

This morning my passenger window has become stuck open and my drivers window stuck closed on my renault megane 53 plate. I have phoned the local dealer and was informed it would cost £450 per window to fix. I have just phoned the 0800 number below to discuss my problems, to be informed, even thou my car is not even 4 months over the 7years, tuff.......! I have tried the fuse thing but it hasnt helped. Any other good ideas would be appreciated as I cannot justify £900 + VAT just to repair 2 windows......!

Sally, April 2011
I had problems last year and was grateful for this thread. However, after my garage repairing both windows (new regulators, etc) after trying all the fuses, double locking, etc my passenger window stayed half way down again! I hadn't realised Renault would repair 75% of the fault. However as this happened on a Sunday with no garages open and unable to drive anyway leaving car unattended, my lovely brother in law managed to fix it. He went in via the speaker (so no need to get whole door panel off like the garage did). It was fairly easy think even I could have done it. There's plastic cover in door panel for the speaker (that unclips) then 2 screws holding speaker in (just undo those) and he wiggled wire and got the switch working and window went up! so is working, however now it's up I've taken fuse out so if the button is accidentally pressed it won't budge as I think it may go again as seems to be a fault with cheap fittings made by Renault. I'm sick of this fault so after having car for 4 years (with no other problems) I'm getting rid of it and will be purchasing a German car - they are made better! Mine is an 05 plate Renault Megane Dynamique. Good luck everyone!

Melissa, April 2011
Hi there, I would just like to thank you for the information. I contacted renault last year but was informed that due to my vehicle being over 125000 miles although under 7 years old I did not qualify for this repair.

However, since I contacted them they have have changed there policy? I have emailed them just now and I am awaiting there response. RIDICULOUS!ANOTHER FAULT BY RENAULT SHOCK SHOCK HORROR!

Sportymcd, April 2011
Megane Oasis,we had the o/s rear window go down when it was in for a service, the garage said they would tape it up, we said no sort it out, but all they did was disconnect the window switch. we had the car for another week or more and then when locked with the fob, the window went down again and would not go up. We booked it in to a garage and they told us it would be £212, then I found this web site and got onto my Renault dealer, and they were great, booked me in for the next day, and the cost was £56 !! So thanks to every one that has bothered to use this web site. People power !! By the way you don't have to worry about the mileage any more, just as long as it under 7 years old, they will pay 75% of the cost...

Yvonne, April 2011
I have just been onto Renault Ireland, asking about the 75% payment towards sorting out my electric window problem and they said that this doesnt operate in Ireland,, so the UK customers get this deal and Irish customers dont! Surely this can't be right? DId anyone else find this?

JP Naas, April 2011
Just something to watch out for when going through the white 25A fuse removal and locking/unlocking process to get your windows to shut - the fuses are next to eachother and you would intuitively think the one nearest the passenger door controls the passenger window and the one nearest the driver side door controls that window. It's not - its the other way around. This had me stumped briefly but when I twigged this I got my passenger window shut in about 10 minutes.

Keith T, April 2011
Thanks guy's for the advice finally got mine to go back up. will be using the air con from now on!!

My '06 megane convertable nearly went on fire. it was sitting out side house with the roof down for over hour when boys came in and said it was smoking very bad. need new door loom and regulator cost to me £99.87!!
25% of bill and 242 mile round trip to dealer going to watch dog with this. as rear one last year cost me nearly £300 as should every one else

Tried all the fuse things and what not but window is still stuck fully open.
I rang the UK Customer Services number as suggested below, (0800 0723372) option 3.
Then had to laugh when an automated message lists different cars and problems they have as options. Option 2 was Renault2 or Scenic2 electric window problems. Then says contact your local Renault Dealer directly and they will fix it for around £100.
Rang the Renault dealer, they fitted me in 1hour 20 mins after I rang and said it's £49.50 for diagnostics but it'll be fixed for between £60 and £100... (Not sure if that includes the £49.50...)

hi got the rear window to go up on my 05.use a pair of long nose pliers to get the 40amp fuse out.the french must have very small hands to use the little tweezers supplied in the fuse box.now got to ring up renault uk to get the 75% off for the window to be fixed, car must be under 7 years old to get this.plus leave out the 25 amp fuse so the window will not open on its own.

try ringing this guy.he is very helpful and seems to know his stuff about repairs. 07514434441

Just want to say Wiggy_woo (June 2010) I completely love you! After a full service on my 04 Renault Megane, my windows started going up and down an inch at a time and then completely freezing. The double lock mechanism on the key wouldn't work at all. All the garage could say was 'I didn't touch the windows' (helpful!). So I persisted and managed to get them all back up and pressed up on each window button for 5 secs and they are back to normal! Panic over for now! I can't afford to spend any more money on this car! Thank you!

Hello
Looking for some advice as both of my front electric windows have seized up and the passenger one is down halfway (I'm currently driving around with a plastic sheet around the window). Any advice on how I can get the window back up? I've seen the advice on taking the fuses out but this didn't seem to work - is this just for the rear windows?
I've noticed that this is a common problem for Megane's, needless to say I will be expecting my Renault dealer to foot most of this bill!!
Thanks.

Nick, March 2011
i have 05 plate megane and the windows started playing up. mainly n/s/f.
found this thread which is great source of info, thanks.
but i cant beleive that renault can get away with this, even if they do pay 75% of any repair cost. surley it should be 100% of any cost!
cant believe this, surley there are solicitors on the forums aruond that might be able to help us! they should not be able to get away with it!

gmx, March 2011
Great advice from everyone, many thanks.

For clarification:
Rear nearside window fix (to get window closed):
Remove 40amp fuse, double click close, window gies up two inches, replace fuse, double click close
Repeat about five times.

Thanks to all once again

Dominic Arnold, Brighton, March 2011
as my 07 plate Megane is out of warranty and the Renault garage was asking for £180 plus labour to replace the window motor I got my local garage to have a look. They discovered about a cup full of water around the motor and the lead from the switch covered in a foam insulation which acts as a sponge upto the connector plug to the motor. It appears the water ingress is from the felt seal at the bottom of the window, rather than the old style rubber seals.

Nick, March 2011
same problem on my wife's grand scenic 1.9 dti. tried the fuse trick - worked a treat.
i'll phone customer services tomorrow as it still qualifies for the 75% assistance.

2005 1.5 Dci Scenic 2 - Rear near side window was open one morning - odd. Few days later came back to find the car had done it again only this time would not rise.
Read threads on Renault forum etc and decided my Motor ECU module faulty, so set about taking rear door skin off, got so far, but came back to forums to look for further advice. Stumbled upon Don T and Mikeybees advice re taking out 40 amp fuse etc etc - AMAZING and thank you to you both. Having got the window up and taken the 40APM fuse out for now to disable rears until I can get car to a garage and start the process of trying to get a proper fix. Really useful website - Thanks to those who contributed.

Dave S, March 2011
Hi, Don here again.
It is the 40 amp fuse that operates the back windows
I have removed this but left the two 25 amp fuses in place & the back windows now dont open or close, but the front ones do.
Sorted.
Cheers all

Don T., February 2011
I Have a 55 reg 1.6 Dynamique megane.
My rear right window went down one evening when I looked the car but would not come up again.
The fix below would not work by taking out the 25 amp fuses so I took out the 40 amp fuse & left the 25 amp ones in place. This worked 2 inches at a time.
I did it through the passenger door, took out the 40 amp fuse closed the door, double locked the car,
opened it, put the fuse back in, closed the door & double locked it again, this moved the window up by 2 inches.
I repeated this 5 times until the window was closed.
I will now take out the 25 amp fuse for the back windows so it wont happen again. I know the back windows will then not work at all, but thats better than the window stopping down.
Thanks for the advise. What a great web site we have here

Don T, February 2011
I have an 04 megane scenic 1.9 DCi, I had this problem about 12 months ago, the window let itself down overnight but recitified itself after a rather cold school run along the motorway, the other day the same thing happened, however, this time it didn't rectify.
After hours pulling my hair out trying to remove the door panel in an attempt to block up the window i saw the post from "mikeybee", it really did work, whilst sat in the car with the doors closed (a little cramped) i removed both 25amp fuses from the fuse box in the glove compartment, double clicked the lock button on the key fob, inserted the left hand fuse of the two 25amp's and double clicked to lock again. As if by magic the window rises about an inch at a time. Repeat until fully closed then remove both fuses.
I cannot tell you the relief i felt (Throwing it down outside and 30 mile journey home from work)!
Top advice, Thanks Mikeybee.

p.s.
Dont bother trying to remove the door panel on this model, it's a "NIGHTMARE" and to top it off, if and when you do get it off you cant move the window to block it up anyway!!!

SI902, February 2011
i have now have the same window having the same problem, called the garage that fixed it (its still under 12mnts when the work was done!!)they said even if its the same part is causing the problem we still have to run it throgh renault uk! well i just couldnt disagree with this anymore as warranty is a warranty if its still valid,so called renault uk myself to see if its the case and if so why?they said its because if it is a different componenets of the same system that they didnt change or touch it will not be covered?! anyway here is important point which i did not know..PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU CAR IS LESS THEN 7 YEARS OLD AND LESS THEN 100K ON THE CLOCK THEY WILL COVER %75 OF THE COST IF ITS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE WINDOW ELECTRICKS!!!

the turk, February 2011
I have a '07 Renault Grand Scenic and the driver's side window suddenly doesn't work at all.
The window is fully closed.
I hear no motor noise and looks like there is no voltage at all.
Is that an electric or a mechanical problem?
The fuse box has fuse for every window?
The fuse box is in the engine bay?

Manos, February 2011
my 06 Reno convertable drivers window will not open,I removed the bank of switches in the drivers door and there seems to be power there as the switch is alluminated any idea.s

I would like to thank all the people who suggested removing fuse(s) and double clicking the button to close the car. It was very very helpful. Thank you!

Have found this thread to be of great help and influence as NOT to buy another Renault again. If Renault themselves know about this problem, and I am positive they do, they should have offered to replace the item for free as and when it fails. This would have given the U.K. public a much higher regard as to future options when buying another car. I was advised by an auto electrician to look and buy a second hand unit and SELL THE CAR, lol.

mikeybee, February 2011
I have a Renault Scenic similar to the Megane on which the drivers window came down by itself overnight causing the alarm to go off, and then would not go up again.
Research combined with trial and error revealed each front door window is controlled by a 25amp fuse located in the glove compartment in a pull down shelf. Removal of both front window fuses and locking the doors, then replacing the fuses one at a time and locking the doors each time a fuse was inserted caused the window to go up about an inch each time it was repeated, when the window was fully up I removed the left fuse allowing the window to stay up until a Renault garage could deal with this design problem. Hope this works for you.

I have a 54 reg Megane Scenic and both front electric windows failed whilst on holiday in France and had to be repaired in a French garage. Thanks to this thread I contacted Renault customer service and after emailing them a scanned copy of the bill, they promptly refunded me 75% of cost (£404). Rather not have had to pay the rest as this is an inherent fault, but as the car is 6 years old I was pleased to get money back quickly and with little fuss.

John, January 2011
Thanks everyone, mine is booked in tomorrow after i called CS and explained about my musical windows etc. The only problem i now have thanks to some plonker mechanic is, when all this started the auto electrician advised me to disconnect the motor so i asked my husbands boss ( a mechanic) to do this for me, instead he completely disconnected my drivers door from the car and then closed it, smashing the connector in the process!! So now my central locking doesn't work, and yes a new wiring loom and connector £100!! Luckily though it's all going to be sorted in the morning and i'm very excited!! I wasn't to worried about my car being stolen etc having no locks, they are hard enough to get going with a key, let alone without!! lol!!

Again so glad i found this thread!!

Amy M, January 2011
This happened on the way home. I meant to wind up my window but pressed the passenger window button and that window shot down and wouldnt go up again. Thanks to your posts, I shut the car and pressed the lock button twice (no card in the ignition) and the window shot up! I hate to think what would have happened if a child had their head out of the window - would the automatic cut out have worked? I have little faith that it would. I am never buying another megane - I have had so many new parts just as its original waranty expired including a new clutch and a new alternator. What a disaster!

I have had the same problem with my 06 megane dci 3 times the driver side x2 and the passenger side x1. AND it has happened again!! I am hoping the dealer will sort as the previous problems all noted and on record!!!
no more meganes for me....

Was with Renault 18mths ago about 04 Megane Sports Hatch window (drv side & psng side) not working & was told wld cost £400 each window to repair. Found this thread & called renault and they will fix for 25% of total cost. Jst got it fixed today (drv side only) £110.00 and it now seems that both windows are working...not sure if they fixed both sides for one price. Service vry good...but a bit late as some water leaked into car as window wasnt closed rite for over a year. Cars shld have been recalled as this is a Renault fault & they were aware of this.

Thanks to this forum I have now been able to close my passenger side rear window after it lowered itself this morning in the rain. I took out the fuse, put it back in again, double clicked the 'lock' on the key fob and the window raised a couple of inches. I repeated this a few times and the window is now closed. I have taken the fuse out now until I get the window fixed at the dealer. Thanks for advice, saves me having a car full of rain water.

Brian, January 2011
oops - my previous message should have read 'Renault paid 75%, so my contribution was £75'. Sorry for any confusion. Now waiting for the same fault on the other windows!

The nearside front passenger window on my 56 Megane opened fully and would not close. Tried everything suggested about fuses and deadlock but nothing! Phoned Renault customer care who booked it in to my usual Renault garage, and guess what?... needed new regulator and wiring loom - the common fault everyone's mentioned!!! Since car was under 5 years and 75k mileage paid 75% which was £75. Good customer care but still miffed at having to pay anything if its a fault they know about and acknowledge!

David, Swansea, January 2011
Update: 5th January 2011

Renault very quickly got me an appointment with my local dealer, within 25 minutes!

Car examined at garage and have confirmed that both rear door regulators (motors) have problem with water ingress and will be replaced when parts come in, now ordered. Wiring looms had no water ingress. My total cost including VAT will be £105 i.e. 25% of the full cost, so around £300 will be paid by Renault.

Hi ive got a 05 1.9DCi scenic grande.

I was at A and E with my 6 month pregnant wife for three hours to return to my car with the near side front window fully down??as it was -2 we knew this was up when we left the car. At first I thought someone had smashed the window but after looking in the door rubber the glass was fully down and none of the buttons would bring it up. I read the info on this page and by removing the middle 25amp fuse and deadlocking the car it came up about 2mm at a time then replacing the fuse and trying the window switch it started going up quicker. After about 25mins of struggling I got the window up and then removed the fuse to stop it going down again!! I will be speaking to renault garage as my car did take part in the recall and was meant to be FIXED!!!! I will post with the outcome later.

Big Al, January 2011
Same problem here, both rear windows on my Megane 1.9 DCI.

I tried the fuse removal and double locking, but neither worked.

Have rung Renault customer service, who are making an appointment for me with local dealer. Although my vehicle doesn't have extended warranty and was new in March 2005 with now 67k mileage, they have generously agreed they will meet 75% of the cost provided the fault lies with the regulator or the wiring loom.

We own a 53 plate renault megane, on friday night our driver side window sent down and didn't come back up. We've had no window whole of the week end and have had to secure this the best we can parked on our drive way. I found this forum and took advice from it and have just rang Renault Customer Services who have told me that they can't do anything (i.e, help wit the cost) as our car is 7 year old and we've had it approx 3 years. I am now left broken as we don't have any money to pay for this. we have tried the fuse etc and can't mend this ourselves. The lady from Customer services refused to help but offered to ring the local dealer for a price and came back on the phone advising we're looking at around £300. Can anyone suggest anything? we really can't afford this much?

Bhav, December 2010
This answer is in reply to Sammy D's in August 2010. I just want to thank Sammy D ever so much for the information regarding the faulty Renault Megane (04 Reg) Scenic Electric Window problem. I have just come off the phone from Renault UK Customer Services (0800 072 3372) and spoke to their Customer Support Manager who was extremely helpful, so much so they have agreed to pay for 75% of the cost and have also booked my Scenic in for 2pm today to repair (How good is that!!!). I am still in a state of shock as i thought i was going to have to leave it until after Christmas to get it repaired, due to the cost of the part and labour (£250.00 +). I just hope that the cost of the repair doesn't come to around £700.00????, as 25% of that is still a lot of money!! Thanks again Sammy D, have a good Christmas

Winna, November 2010
Rear passenger window went yesterday, had a look online and came across this forum. As suggested i called Renault Customer Services today and they agree it is a common fault and the 75% discount will be applied. They have put me through to my nearest Renault dealer and is booked in for tommorrow. Fingers crossesd.

supacott, November 2010
I have a 53 plate megane. Rear window went down a week ago and wouldn't go back up. Just tried the 40 amp fuse trick I
Read on this forum. Worked perfectly. Thanks all.

Welshfox, November 2010
I had a 54 plate Megane and had numerous problems with the windows. Waiting in the queue at the Renault dealership i overheard the customer in front saying window went down last night and would not come up, i immediately said that is what happened to me. Then the guys behind me said it also happened to him. Also had a 57 plate Megane and again had problems with both front windows. Pity you cannot get roll ups anymore as no other problems with both cars.

Ali, November 2010
ok ok ok....we get it thatlots of people are having window problems....but.....where is the water getting in ????...how can this be stopped ???...how can we waterproof the electrics/motor/regulator.....ive heard about using grease and wrapping in cling film.......does anyone have some practical advice about how we can prevent this from happening again after weve had the repair done ?????

CLYDE, October 2010
Regarding the problem with electric windows this forum was excellent worked really well followed advice phoned Renault customer services guy on the phone was brilliant he put me through to my local Renault dealership agreed to cover 75% of the cost, picked the car up today all sorted 1 year guarantee total cost just under £60 well worth a ring. even offered a courtesy car if needed couldnt have been more helpful or polite good to see these days

David Bewick, October 2010
Thank goodness I found this forum! My 2004 grand scenic drivers side back window packed up last weekend. Whilst searching for cheap replacement motor, I came accross this site. Just had it fixed, regulator and new loom, for £90 inc vat, after speaking to Renault. (75% covered by them). However, those of you who fall outside the warranty agreement can buy replacement part on-line for £70! (my dealer charged £210 for part!).

Bea, October 2010
The guy who paid £55, well done. My window went and I was told it would be the regulator, Renault would pay 75% blah, blah, but it would cost me £95 (that works out at a £380 fix for a window that doesn't work). I told them not to bother - but got a free health check and an estimate of £1692 for items that needed doing. As I drove off the forecourt and tried the window, it worked!!! After trying to speak to the technician who did the work (to no avail) I found out that the block connectors were disconnected then reconnected and the window then worked - but there was water in the door loom - but they don't know how it got in. But are still adamant that a new regulator and door loom are required. If anyone has money to burn, use the renault dealers.

Dutchy, October 2010
I have an 08 plated Megane, six months ago both front windows had to be replaced due to faulty motors and now guess what, the drivers door window has gone again, this would seem to be an ongoing problem, just a shame Renault cant sort it out!!!!

Fred, October 2010
Hi, my window broke last night! As long as your car is under 7 years n 100000 miles they will assist u, unfortunately for me I'm at 124000! Get on the phone tho if u meet the criteria !!!!

Amy, October 2010
So what hapens if youve bought the car from a private seller ??..if your having window problems and contact renault will they still offer to cover 75% of the costs....i have an 04 megane and the drivers window is out of action totally (thankfully closed) will renault part cover the cost of fixing it ????

clyde, October 2010
i have an 04 magane estate, during the winter/wet season of 2009, my drivers window had gone downthrough the nt,, by itself and would not go back up, i took the fuse out -put back in and double locked, the window raised about an inch. repeated till the window was closed, i then left the fuse out till the end of winter,, because on investigating the problem i found no fault with the regulator... the actual problem is water, i found drips hanging of the wiring for the switch, so i used an ignition sealer to drive out the moisture,, its a design fault that allows water to tract across the electrics... renault know this but wont admit it... i would suggest to anyone unfortunate to have a megane with window problems especially around winter to take out the fuse till warmer weather.... this has worked on 2 other meganes.. a convertible 04 plate and another estate like mine on a 05 plate.. its normal for water to get inside the door skin,, but is supposed to run to the bottom a drain out through holes.... also in france the law states that all viehicles must carry spare bulbs headlight, brake and indicator bulbs etc.. bearing this in mind. i wonder why they have designed a car where its impossible to change a bulb roadside on the front end ;that is, without stripping it down....

mike., September 2010
I have an 04 renault megane, passanger side window dont work period, ther driver side inches up and down even when i hold it. Because of no extended warranty the renault dealer tried to tell me 700 pound to fix motor. I'm sorry i'd rather have windows that dont work.

Kwame, September 2010
Tonight, my passenger window got stuck down and would not close on the Megane. Call RAC and they came and said a new motor is needed. Left car with window open for a couple of hours. Went back - window closed! Conclusion: car possessed.

Fido, September 2010
Renault 03 plate passenger side front has just gone AGAIN!! First time it was replaced due to recall now gone again will take to an elec auto tmrw and see the damage

Sammy D, August 2010
I had a problem with the drivers window, it went down and would not go back up. I tried the advice given on here (pulling fuses and deadlocking) but nothing worked. I then rang the number for customer services (08000723372) and they were brilliant. They agreed that they would pay 75% of the repair (if it was the regulator/motor). They then put me through to the local dealer who was equally as good. I took the car in at 11am and it was fixed by 1.30pm. Total price i had to pay was £55.87. I was really pleased with how professional they were. The customer services said that the new agreement was that the car had to be under 7 years old and have no more than 100k miles on the clock to qualify for the 75% off. My megane is 5 years old and has 99815 miles on the clock, so was just in!!!

Paul. Hull., August 2010
can i just ask do you need to have bought the car from a reault dealership for them to give you the 75% offer? my 05 megane windows have started to play up but i bought mine from arnold clark. will i get the offer if i phone the number above?

antony, July 2010

remove panel where speaker is,. it pulls off Put your hand down behind panel and juggle plug, try window now.Make sure your hand is not behind panel when operating switch

endall, June 2010
Have got the same problem with my megane on a 54 plate, both front windows were going up and down by themselves, now both don't work at all!! Contacted renault on 08000723372, they have agreed to pay 75% of cost, but only if problem is with regulators. Car is going in to main dealer tomorrow so fingers crossed.

MrPip, June 2010
Regarding peoples windows only going up an inch at a time.
You need to move windows up to the top and hold windows button up for 5 seconds and this resets the motor and tells it to only 1 button press for all the way up or down.

Regarding Windows / Motors
I had the auto electrician back to my car/window and he said that water gathers within the door and rusts the wiring loom/connection and thus the window stops working all together [regardless of what tricks are available]

He cleaned the connectors and re-insulated and all works ok.

However, it now seems to stop and start working when it feels like it?

I think that the issue is caused by the car being dead locked via the double lock process via the key fob.
Thus, don't dead lock car just lock it via 1 click.

Just though people might like to know.

Wiggy_wooo, June 2010
I have had this same issue, repaired 3 times under warranty on my 2005 megane estate and now both front windows have went again! Friends at work have advised me of a couple of auto electric firms who can do a permanent fix for this problem which involves replacing the window wiring and using a relay box, you no longer have the one-touch open/close function but this is a small price to pay in able to have windows that actually open and close. Cost £80 per window, RESULT!!!!

Bronski, June 2010
Bought Megane on 54 plate from new. Had problems with every window over last 6 years. 1st to go was drivers window. Repaired under warranty so no dramas. However other 3 windows have developed intermittent faults. These faults vary from car appearing to run it's own diagnostics check (dashboard lights up like xmas tree, engine revs up and unable to turn car off). Windows lowering when double locking car, windows not opening at all, windows not closing when i've opened them!! The car is an absolute nightmare..........................french junk!!! No more Renaults for me after I offload this pile of c!!p

Sean, June 2010
Ive had this problem for a while now with my 03 Megane.

Changed a headlight about a year ago (what a nightmare that was) and as a result got a pretty bad shock from it. Subsequently the drivers side window ceased to work. I have no idea if it was simply a blown fuse, or the regulator and never bothered to get it fixed.

Passenger side window works, however it only inches down, irrespective of holding the button. At times, when you have to repeatedly click the passenger window up it will reach the top, and then fully recline back into the door and will not go up. Turning the car off and on again lets it go back up, but its becoming a real pain, especially in the warm weather. Is it something as simple as changing the fuse or does it sound like a regulator will need replaced.

Daniel, May 2010
having the same problems with my scenic megane 04, both back windows, woke up after heavy nights rain to find my windows down and pool of water in car, it is stil foisty and damp, and i have had plastic on my windows for 4 days now, bought car in good faith off renault and begrudge paying for a recognised problem, will try ringing renault CS tomorow and hope they foot majority of bill.

Anne, May 2010
I too have problem with drivers window thanks to this site i telephoned above number and am waiting on a call to take to my nearest dealer they will pay 75% of bill.Well wait and see what happens

loraine, May 2010
My thanks to all of you who suggested calling Renault Customer Services on 0800 0723372 regarding electric windows failing. I called the number on 25/05/10 as passenger window on my 55 Megane had once again opened itself (clever little B often does it when I am not around) The lady that I spoke to in customer services was very helpful and advised that Renualt accept that this is a fault and that they would pay 75% of the repair bill (no more than £90 for the customer to pay, as long as it was the regulator that had failed), she then spoke to my local dealer and they came back to me, car went in for repair on 26/05/10 and had the regulator replaced.

Jan Davies, May 2010
Hi Everyone. I'd like to thank all of you who suggested calling 0800 0723372 regarding electric windows not working. I called the number yesterday as I am havng problems with the drivers window on my 05 Megane. The guy in customer services could not have been more helpful, he advised that they had received some calls regarding this issue. He said that it there was not sufficient for Renualt to recall the cars, but as this was not up to their usual quality standard they would pay 75% of the repair. Happy days!!! Its booked in for next Thursday and I will get a courtesey car for the day to boot.

Spudniks, May 2010
Called into dealer this morning re: passenger window won't close. Funny how they never mentioned anything other than full repair costs until I mentioned that I was aware from the www that it was a known fault and Renault should contribute to the cost. Anyway, she tells me that they've changed their policy now and Renault will pay 65%, but only if it is diagnosed as a regulator fault. Do regulator, switch and loom problems have different symptoms, I'm trying to make a guess at which it will be. Any ideas? Thanks gang, your postings have been really useful.

DebbieZebbie, May 2010
hello again guys!yes it was the regulator and as i've said they agreed to pay %95 of the total cost which was only £15 for me to pay great!!!so if you experience the same problem call,be nice and calm and you might get the same offer...the guy at the garage(main dealer)said that lots of these cars coming for the same problem so yes they do know that there is a problem but only do something about it if you complain.

the turk, May 2010
my front drivers side and rear passenger side window do not worked and have phoned up renault today on 08000723372 who told me that they would pay 75% of the cost of fixing this problem, so i have booked it in and shall let u know how I get on. I dont know why they just dont recall all the cars and have them checked out. I have only had my car for 1 year and it is a 55 plate. So all these people out there please phone up and complain. Hope this is off help to you.

Anne, May 2010
try the 40am fuse instead of the 25amp (40 amp is the orange coloured just above the 25s)and make sure you are outside the vehicle when double locking, hopr this helps..

The Turk, April 2010
Driving home from training, got out my car, locked it...walked away only to turn around & see my back passenger (driver side) window go down on it own accord...after hours of deadlocking, turning on car, turning off car, taking out 25a fuses, locking, unlocking, putting fuses back in, locking car, fuses out again...etc etc etc...the window remained down...I was just about to give up and was switching the switches in a fit of rage the window decided to come back up on it's own, great I thought...I'll just NEVER put that window down...then at work this morning...locked my car...what happened...the b*#tard (excuse my French) window went down again...it is now refusing to go up...any ideas??

hello guys!(55 plate grand scenic 1.6)we today found that rear left window was down and woludnt no go up regardless of what, however tried the fuse trick(40amp)and yes bit by bit it went up but now would no longer oparate, but other windows are working fine,we bought this car in jan this year as second hand car just under 50k on the clock,so i've called renault uk on 0800 072 33 72 and spoken very nicely to a rather nice and helpful lady told them about the car even told them it is second hand and so on,and in the end they offered to meet %95 of the cost but only if it is the regulator, which i have accepted, but just hope that it is the regulator, will let you guys know how i get on..

The Turk, April 2010
Just found this great thread as my 03 meganes passenger window stop working. I dont know if the rear indicator bulb and break light failure are connected but I replaced those and they now work. I then removed the 2 25amp fuses and the window now works. I had to reset the window by holding the switch up button when fully closed. Thanks.

Phil, April 2010
window on my sports megan only opens. I took the mechanism off, the motor checks out okay. When polarity is reversed it closes, when i change polarity again it opens. Do you have any suggestions how to cure it.

joe, April 2010
Hi all. The window going up or down bit by bit is a real problem in Renault cars. To slove this problem, press the swith on and on again until it closes completely. Then keep pressing the swith for 10 seconds on close mode. It should work afterwards. This problem solve method is also mentioned in car's handbook.

john, April 2010
I have had the same problem with my rear passenger window going down by its self, I pulled out the 40amp fuse, stood in front for the door in question and double locked the car, the window goes up 2 or 3 inches at a times, keep repeating the until the window is up completly. I am now going to my local renault dealer to find out if this can be repaired or if it is something I have to live with, after having a new dash put in and now this, I will never buy renault again.

Rob from harrogate, north yorkshire, April 2010
I Had same problem about 3 weeks ago driver window went down but would not go up, i eventually got it back up, yesterday passenger side did the same GRRRRRRR!!! had to store in friends garage till this morning started car window go's up on its on???? Does anyone know if i take the fuses out this will at least stop the window going up and down... untill we can afford to get it fixed?

Mark, April 2010
My renault Megane had this fault about 2 years ago, my garage charged 250 to put right, now its gone again. Pulled up outside the house, locked the car and the driver window opened by itself! Have tried cleaning the fuses but no luck, any suggestions?

Janet, April 2010
i have a renault megan 56 plate I have been back to Arnold Clarke in St Helens which is now my fifth visit, and hopefully my last. I have made a complaint with Renault, as I bought this car in good faith that it works, it obviously does not. My car is out of warranty yet I am never charged and Arnold Clarke but the bill to Renault as it is a recognised fault. My advice is all of you when you read this pick up the phone and make the complaint the more we complain offically the more the percent of the Renault drivers goes up and therefore we are not a minority of complainers. I am in the middle of talks relating to a like for like swap, to a renault which does not have this fault. Do not let renault fool you, they are fully aware of this problem and they should not be selling this car and should work out what the problem is. I am seriously considering to contact the one show or watch dog. I will update once I have had answer back from renault.

Anne, March 2010
I have a 53 reg Megane that I've had from 1 year old.

About 18 months ago the driver's side window stopped working (stuck in the up position). I wasn't sure whether it was the switch or something else, but not taking the car anywhere hot decided to live with it.

Then about this time last year I got in the car pushed the start button and all the electricts turned on (lights, wipers, every warning light on the dash etc). The start stop button didn't switch off the engine so I had to stall it (all electrics still going mad). A colleauge of mine suggested disconnecting the battery which seemed to do a good job of resetting the system and solving the problem.

However, the driver's side window started working again, but doing the strange juddery thing and only going up or down a few cms at a time - plus the double lock wouldn't raise the window if it was down. Again I decided just to live with it then before Christmas it was back to working fine in smooth up or down motions -another problem fixed itself (apart from the double lock trick still not working).

But today at work I got in the car, pushed the start button and the passenger window completely lowered on its own. Neither switch would do anything, and switching the car off and on didn't help either. Not wanting to drive home in the pouring rain I called the AA explained the fault and told them I'd wait inside for them to arrive. Then on autopilot I got out the car and pressed the lock button twice... up went the passenger window. It is now stuck closed (however at least it meant I could cancel the AA and come home!).

I'm concerned by comments from people saying they've come back to their cars to find windows down - is that common?

Like before I can live with this rather than paying Renault lots of money to maybe fix it, but obviously this is not ideal - especially if there is a chance it could randomly open while unattended.

Luckily it is only a 3 door version so I there are no more windows to break!!

John, March 2010
My megan does the same passenger window goes down itself very scary at night my dad pulled out the fuse fixed the problem but no p/s window

Bernadette, March 2010
Hi again, booked the Megane at Renault Manchester they replaced the window motor under warrantee (eventhou it ran out last December) and did a 25 point check for £29.95 --- well impressed

Paul Jackson, March 2010
own a Renault Megane Dynamique DCI 1.9 and I was driving home and my driver side window started going down by itself. Aparently this is a fault with Meganes and there was a recall a few years back. After starting and stopping my engine a few times when I got home to see if this reset anything, which it didn't I called a few local garages and they, without looking at it were quoting £150-200 to supply and fit, even though they didn't knw what they were to supply & fit.
After putting a bin bag over the window I decided to look about the car for the fuses etc.. Inside the glovebox on the left hand side there is a drop down panel, which reveals in my car 4 fuses for various things. There are picture diagrams for for what each fuse controls. I took the one that controlled the eletric windows out (30amp) gave it a clean and replaced it. When I tried the window it went up half way so I repeated the process and it completely shut and is now working fine. I would now recommend getting hold of some spare fuses (all types) and try what I did, then replace the appropriate fuse before taking it to a garage where no doubt you'l be fleeced. Hope this is of help!!

Iain McCann, March 2010
Just to add another voice to the list of people with the same problem.
My 54 scenic passanger window opened itself and would do no more untill the next day. Now its (for the moment) working alright. Private Garage say £200 for "module" and labour. Anyone know Jeremy Clarksons email?

allan, March 2010
Hi folks, i bought a second hand Megane 2004 about two months ago. the drivers window started going down randomly for me. I took the 25 amp fuse out (located in the glove box there is a thin slip on the left hand side that flips down for the fuses ) the 25 amp one i took out is the white 25 on top of another 25 fuse. Put it back in, pressed the lock button twice on the fob and the window went up 2 inches at a time. Same advice as before though just to be clear that when you are inside it might look as if it is all the way up but you need to do it once more to get it fully up. I have d/c the switch for the front windows just incase. My mechanic thinks it is the switches fault im not so sure. to d/c the switch the drivers side panel for the switches just comes away easily towards you then push a little away from you and then it is out. The "plug" as it were is hard to get off. there is a catch that needs pressed wile pulling away but with a little patience and perseverance you will get there in the end. Hope this helps.

Chris, March 2010
Hi I have an 04 grand scenic and for all you guys out there its also common on this model. Its now 9.30 pm and my hubby is out in the rain trying to get a door panel off I think its desgraceful especially the repair quote what a joke. We bought the car off a very close friend who never had any probs with it and to be honest with you I am sick of it already!!

talkingbaby, March 2010
Hi all, Yesterday “Sunday” the front passenger window Renault Megane 56 plate wouldn’t close, 3rd time since having the car from new. The RAC chap was brilliant, he took part of the panel off and the speaker out, then he tapped the motor with his screwdriver whilst i kept the button pressed in the closed position. After a few minutes it closed. Today i telephoned Renault M/c some kid said if it is the same problem as before Renault will cover the cost (yer right) ...... will keep you in formed.

My 02 Megane drivers window replaced twice in 3 years at a cost each time of £300. Renault UK Ltd apologise for any convenience caused stating the Megane is a very popular vehicle of which there are thousands on the road the number of people that suffer this issue as a percentage of the total number of vehicles on the road is very small.Obviously they cannot reimburse me for the cost of repairs. It would be interesting to find the number of window failures they have had over the product range?

Frederick, March 2010
I have done exactly the same as Lee French, remove 40 amp, reinsertt and double lock. Took about 6 attempts before window was fully up. Now rear window doesn't work - hey ho at least it's now up. I hope it's still up tomorrow morning. What is it with French cars and electrics?

Nig697, March 2010
I got into my 55 reg Megane yesterday (after my car had been in a car park the whole day) to find a nasty smell of burning and my passenger-side window about 3 inches down. After driving straight to a garage, I was told that it was probably the motor, but after they had checked it over, they said that there was no power reaching the motor at all, and the fuse appeared fine - so the problem was further into the electrical system.

They quoted me £85 to get an electrician out to run a diagnostics check, which - after a bit of ringing around - I have managed to get elsewhere for £35 and I'm currently waiting for the garage to tell me when I can take the car in. This morning, my driver-side window is playing up too and will only go up and down a tiny bit at a time!

Has anyone else reported the same thing, with the smell of burning??

CatL, March 2010
Have a 06 Megane and the window started to go down by itself last month (01.01.10) I have been through the fuse thing and it worked at first. The window went up lush, thought sorted. Then it didnt work at all thought, dont care yet still closed. Then tonight it decided to open by itself again OMG we said, its pissing down. Call the RAC thats what we pay for we thought, So we did. The bloke was good and knew exactly what to look for as its a now known problem says it needs a new motor as water has broken it AAAAhhhhh ITS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD

Lee French, February 2010
I have a Scenic Grand 05 plate and the rear drivers window went down on its own and I could not get it up using the buttons. Tried the fuse tip and it worked except I removed the 40amp instead of the 25's. Removed the fuse then reinserted it. Double locked the car and the window started to go up. Had to repeat a couple of times to get it up completely. Thanks for this great. tip. I agree I'd never buy Renault again

Dot the Boy, February 2010
I have had this problem before and the fuse-switching fixed it. Today it recurred because a bag had become stuck in the boot lock, throwing the entire locking system into a tailspin. With a bit of brute force, ignorance and careful timing, I managed to open the boot. This left the rear offside passenger window down but 'Ye olde fuse trick' just would not work. This time I had to remove the bottom 25 amp fuse, as described by Mark (passim) AND the 40 amp fuse on the right, then go through the double locking sequence. The window is up and the fuse is OUT and staying out.

Like many on here I will never have another Renault. If nothing else, the so-called diagnostics required by dealerships are a licence to print money. And that is putting it mildly...

My passenger front window was stuck 1/4 way down and wouldn't go back up. There was no noise coming when button was pressed. Tried double locking as suggested and all the other windows moved freely but not the passenger window unfortunately. Also tried taking fuses out and swapping around to no avail. Looked at taking off door panel but was too complicated. Took it to my local garage in end as couldn't obviously leave it with window open. They said the motor had gone and the door panel was a nightmare to get off and most of the connections were rusty. They said may be due to this side not being used much, which I must admit is true. Had to get replacement regulator and motor in end which they fixed - cost £218.32 for part + their labour (2 hours) and VAT but at least I know it's sorted. They did offer to temporarily fix without getting whole unit but the labour alone wasn't worth doing and it could go again. Rest of car has been fine to be honest so was surprised to hear so many faults like this. Mine's a REnault Megane 05 plate.

I have Reanult Megane 55 plate and on Sunday My passanger window decided to come down but refused to come back Up. I took it to reanult on monday who quoted me £520 to repair the relay and £89 for diagnostic check which they had not informed me I would have had to pay when I booked it in. I Refused to pay this, and now need tips on how to sort this electrical fault problem out.. any Tips????

Micky, February 2010
we have a problem where the rear passenger window goes down on its own then will not come back up. we have tried the fix in the manual - this did not work! after being quoted £300 for a new regulator we tried the remove fuse & then deadlock car solution-this does work.
so for now we will do this when it hapens again, which i am sure it will.

brandycat, February 2010
I can't believe Renault has stuck its head in the sand with this one. Its rediculous!!

I have had exacly the same problem with my 53 plate Megane. The offside rear passengers window suddenly went down one day when I deadlocked the car. (It had been raining a lot at the time) and I was shocked as it would not go back up. Conviently or not it was a Sunday! I called the AA out who could not get it go back up either.

Eventually when I was driving about later that day the switch was working again and I got it go up, then it chose to go down again in stages. I spent quite some time putting up as it went down and eventually it stayed up. This was around a year ago now and the window has just been dead, you couldnt get it down even if you tried. Then suddenly again today I started the car and it started to go down again...coming back to life!

I found a really good page by doing a search on google which shows you how to get the door panel off. I got the window to go back up using the switch and turned the car off while the window was up before it had chance to go back down!

Then I took the door panel off, disconnected the switch and tried again...No luck so then went the whole hog and disconnect the motor which now seems to have cured the problem. Without costing me ££ in a Renault garage.

I am now concerned that the other windows are going to go from what everyone says on here :( I would like some of them to work!

Kate, February 2010
there is a problem with the wiring loom in the drivers door, gets water damage renault recomends replacement of loom and motor i would check loom first.

lee, February 2010
Unbelievable - mines gone too! Thanks for the advice here - pulling the fuse and replacing to get the window up 2 inches at a time works.

Contaminated, January 2010
I have had the same problems with my windows on my 53 reg Megane. The front passenger side had the regulator (or so they say) replaced twice while under warranty. The problem reoccured to the same window 6 months ago (out of warranty), and I decided not to use it (hoping it would not come down). Then last week I went to leave for work and noticed to rear window on the drivers side was fully down??? Immediately I thought the regulator would need replacing and I just saw pound signs and a Renault dealer rubbing his hands. However after reading this I tried a few of the answers. So I took the door panel off (not straight forward and tricky - would recommend using a Haynes manual). Then using a heat gun on the regulator (plastic box under window motor) for a little while to help evaporate any moisture. Then when cooled I wrapped the unit in plastic to stop any more moisture getting in. This seemed to work, however then my other three windows only worked in stages (having to press the button about 5 times to lower or raise the window)???? I then had to reset the other three windows, I done this by closing a window and holding the button up for a coupe of seconds (this is shown in the Owners Hand Book), turn the ignition on and off and hey presto it worked normally. Repeated with the other windows, and now all opperating properly. Not sure how long for, but at least I feel for confident it trying to fix the problem again without taking to Renault. Definately try this method before paying out loads of money.

December 2009

Yesterday I had the alarm on my Megane Maxim '06 go off while I was in the house. Thinking nothing of it, I unlocked and locked again without it even crossing my mind to go outside and investigate. This morning as I went to jump into the car on my way out, I found the driver's window fully opened and the interior of the car completely soaked because it has been continually raining. And like all of yours, the window will not go up. Much to my distress, I've been pondering how on earth to get this fixed on a Sunday when pretty much everything is closed - or costs an arm and a leg to get fixed today anyway. It didn't even occur to me that this may be a regular malfunction with the Renault. But after reading this forum, I am now even more frustrated at Renault's blatant disregard for what's obviously negligence on their part.

So I'm just wondering if anyone has had any contact with Renault regarding the regularity/repeated nature of the issue same??

Never to own a Renault again!!, December 2009
my drivers window will not go down at all everything else is fine???? help

kelly, November 2009
Ive got a 55 plate megane and have had it from new. Its only got 33,ooo on the clock and ive had 1 x front passenger window regulator replaced plus 2 x drivers window regulators replaced all under warrenty. But guess what the drivers window has gone again and its out of warrenty. Each time i took into the local renault garage they said it was the regulator. This time they say its water ingress into the wiring loom. Qouted me £150 for the part without labour. I have no faith in renault to repair what I see as a design fault. The window is up and ive removed all valuables from the inside of the car. I now leave the car unlocked when i go out. Its better than coming back to the car when its been raining to find the window down and the seat soaked. Ive had a renault 9, clio, scenic and laguna in the past but will never buy another renault again.

Mick, November 2009
what is double locking? is it double clicking the lock on the car or the lock button inside the car?

josh, November 2009
Don't ever ever buy a Renault again. My electric window has broken down and its costing £300 to replace the motor. I will try the brokers yard else glue the window for now.

joe, October 2009
how do you replace door lock on megane estate

frank, October 2009
Hi I have had the front drivers window on my megane 54 replaced under warranty once when it stuck down thro using the auto double lock on the key card, was told it was the regulator and wiring loom now 15 months on and both front windows dont work and again Renualt say it's the regulator and looms and they want to charge over £1000 to do the work, thats a 1/4 of the cars value....maybe I would be better traing it in with the winows broken and let Renault sort it themselves...........not that I want another renault with all this crap I have had with the windows

owenuowenme, October 2009
There is a plug and socket that can be accessed when the door is open. (ZIF connector) pull the lever down gently and seperate, all electrical connections can be accessed here. Clean the connections and re-insert and in my case hey presto the window works again. Window works every now and again after I go through this procedure. I need to find which of the pis operates the window, and ensure this connection is good.

happydoug, October 2009
I have a Jan '05 (54Reg) Megans Sport tourer estate. It had been standing for some time. When I came to use it, only the passenger window would work. Read this site and tried taking out the 25amp fuse as suggested - nothing. Then took out the 40amp fuse, replaced it and that made the rear windows work. Took out the 25amp again, replaced it and voila!, they all work. Thanks to everybody who contributed. Needless to say, my Renault dealer wanted to install 3 new regulators/motors, cost about £900. Never buy another Renault

John Durbin, October 2009
Had the same issue with rear passenger door. Opened of its own accord and then wouldn't work at all. Tried the fuse out, fuse in, double lock thing and it only worked for one 2" raise of the window. So then tried the AA man's trick (see below) Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect and double lock - window raised two inches. Did that enough times to close the window (hooray!) and have now disconnected the window so it can't do it again. Thanks for all the help on this forum.

Silv, October 2009
the electric window motors in every door have control circuit boards built in i have found that the motor units are usually ok.the problem is usually the circuit board and sometimes by simply unplugging the motor and board and reconnecting everything works again.if your windows only go up/down in small steps you might find that by getting the window fully up holding the switch up for around 5 seconds then getting the window down to the bottom and holding the switch down for 5 seconds you might find that the window willthen work correctly.

graham anderson, September 2009
Locked my car as normal and when I returned to the car later, the near side rear window was down - of course it wouldn't go back up. Garage quoted £292 to replace the regulator, I paid £35 for them to jam the window shut until I find a cheaper way to fix this problem.

Mine is an 2004 Renault Megane Scenic, first time I've had this problem but dodgy electric definately seems to coincide with either really hot weather or really cold weather.

If anyone knows where to get a cheap regulator give us a shout!

Sasha Frost, September 2009
I have the same problem on Megane 05 saloon. Does anyone know how to take the door panel off on the drivers side. there is a website http://www.micksgarage.ie/proddetails.aspx?pid=169600&pk=976A0 that sells new parts that I found and I wanted to have a look at the regulator before I bought it. Do you think this is a good idea?

mort11, September 2009
dear god. i have an 03, and have been through the passenger window going down when i locked the doors, returning to the car to find a window down. the window locking down and not going up, replacing the motor, i have spent 100s on this - now this weekend all 4 windows all only work 2cm at a time. how the heck can renault dare look at me as though i am mad or lying when i see what you all say? it is quite obviously a major fault with the car. I also note usually when it is wet. grrr

sjb, August 2009
I had a problem with my front passenger window, was flakey at the start, but eventually would not go down. I read the threads on this topic and contacted my dealer. The dealer said the regulator was still under warranty. My car is April 06 (almost 3.5 yrs old).
Went to the dealer today, and got the part replaced. no charge. Took an hour and 20 mins.

Corcaigh, August 2009
My 05 Megane pasenger window started playing about a few months ago, whatever way you pressed the switch , up or down , it would only just go down and only way to get it back up was to deadlock the car. However i bought a haynes manual which tells you how to remove the door panel to get into the components, what i found was a bit of a shock, on the wiring loom which goes to the regulator motor had previously corroded and instead of putting a new wiring loom in the door they just soldered the wires together. I just bought a whole new loom from a scrap megane ( that wasn't corroded) for a tenner, give it more insulation , connected it up and the window works fine, just check your wiring before thinking it's the motor. By the way if your back passenger windows seem dead, turn the child lock on and then off!

Adam, August 2009
I had the passenger window go down on its own and not come back up. I tried removing the fuse and putting it back then double locking but the window would not move at all.

So I then tried wiggy woos answer (October 08). I locked the door (twice so the deadbolt was on) then opened the door, got in, removed the lower white 25 amp fuse, put the fuse back in again and then started the engine. With the engine still on I tried the window and it worked fine, although it would only go up a few inches at a time. I got the window all the way up without having to continually remove the fuse.
This is a quicker way to fix the problem as you only have to remove and replace the fuse once, so try it first.
All I can say is thank god I found this website as I was about to get charged £210 by my garage to replace the regulator and motor! As well as sorting out the problem I also know that I wasn't going mad trying to make people believe the window went up and down on its own!!

Simon, July 2009
Welcome to megane hell.
I have a 53 plate 1.9tdi dynamic. Nice car you say....well yes. At first it was good. A great car to drive......straight into a money pit.
Aside from the parts fitted during original build i have had to have 2 x off side front electric window mechanisms (£260 each), 1 x near side front elctric window mechanism (£260), 1 x near side rear electric window mechanism(£220), 1 x electronic petrol cap locking mechanism (£100) and a new key fob (£87 to order and £69 to code)............all this in the last two years on a car now only 5.5 yrs old!!!!

Do not buy a megane.
Advise all who you know not to buy a megane.
Changing career to Renault parts dealer.

Good luck.

Simon, June 2009
Well after 6 window motors going on my 53 megane over a period of 3 years, along with 3 ignition coils needing to be replaced and numerous indicator bulbs being replaced "due to speed bumps" it has had its final warning and has been replaced.
I feel slightly guilty about the next poor sod who buys this shed. Renault...... never again. VW anytime

Karen, June 2009
Not as bad as it going down itself, or refusing to come back up...
But my driver side window wouldn't go back up at first, eventually did. Now won't budge down.
Any ideas to fix?

TIGER, June 2009
I had a similar problem - the front passenger window opened while the car was all locked up and parkedin a public car park. It wouldn't go up again. AA man took the door panel off, disconnected the switch then pushed the window up by hand. When we later reconnected the switch it seemed to work again - although the central locking system started doing something very odd!. However, 12 months later not one of my windows winds up or down. Have had the entire winding mechanism replaced in the drivers door (cost£300), but it is still not reliable - its definately an electrical issue.

I recommend getting rid of the car - it will only get worse and Renault just don't want to know

Val, June 2009
Both of my front windows lower on their own whilst the car is parked! Yes I can get them back up by replacing the fuse and double locking several times, but renault have refused to help due to the high mileage even though it's obviously a design fault. I have now put a piece of wood inside the door skin to hold the windows up, Renault want £440 per window !!!! To replace parts, not repair problem!!!! I'll never buy another Renault and will discourage others at all times.... CR*P CAR.

Mark Pugh, June 2009
Please help, my megane mk 2. drivers window (electric) goes down but not up again, it has know gone down wont move! after ALOT of bother removing the door panel to look inside, weve noticed that the motor is broke, i bought the car 5 months ago secondhand from a dealer under finance, i have hd nothin but electrical faults, breakdowns, lights flashin and i am sick to death of this car!!! how much would it cost to fix (replace motor and labour costs) or do i have a chance in hell in taking it back???? i dont know what to do anymore!!

Grace, May 2009
DRIVERS WINDOW NOT WORKING ..... SORTED!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps Im lucky, but I decided to take my door panel apart. The regulator was soaking wet. dryed it out with a hair dryer, Hey presto! its worked ever since. wrapped it in a plastic bag to protect it from future water and reassembled the door panel. saved £££££££ try it at your own risk but it worked for me!

Darren, April 2009
Had the same fault on my '53 Megane II, the window would wind down (selecting ethier up or down with the door switch) and would only wind up when the dealock is set from the door/remote.

The deadlock control stoped winding the window up after a few weeks!!
Under investigation i removed the door panel and applied some tests, the problem seems to lie with the digital controller that 'piggy-backs' the window motor/gearbox (One torx screw & two clips) . Inside this unit are a bunch of active and passive components that tell the window motor to wind up/down when the input is selected by the user from the control switch and 'feel' for obstruction if a body part touches the window. It can also tell if the window has wound to it's full extent ethier up/down.

Anyway... tried to purchase this part from Renualt and all they want to sell me is the whole unit and regulator at the cost of £240+!!!
Contacted Renualt UK they cannot and will not split the part that i need either, have asked them to follow up parts complaint.

Have ordered a motor from an ebay dealer/breaker with th 'piggy-back' part that i require at a cost of around £75.00

Renualt need to look at there spares supply and give it a good shake, this part would only cost around £4-5 to manufacture and probally sell for £20-25 and take less than 1.5 Hrs to fit.

It looks like many of you out there have the same problem with window mech's and have been overcharged for parts and service by there Renualt dealers, Renualt themselves are guilty of throwing money away on cars that are still under warranty and who pays for this I hear you cry? Yes us the customer with spiraling parts and service costs!!

C'mon Renualt get your act together, how much repeat bussines do you expect to get with the faulty cars you supply and poor customer service?

Ranting Buelligan, April 2009
Hi all

I had the same problem with my 05 Megane yesterday. I took to Renault garage in Crewe who told me the Regulator was faulty and said it will cost £377 to correct the problem. When I queried the cost and Window Regulator Warranty, I was told Window regulator Warranty is for 4years; new regulator was £197, 1.4 hours labour to fit and 1 hour diagnostic labour. I nearly died. I explained that the window went down on its own whilst left unattended because of their poorly designed deadlock issue. The response I got was to contact Renault myself if I was not happy. I’m ringing tomorrow, Does anyone know if the Window regulator is 4 or 5 years? Had the car less than 6 months, My first and last Renault that’s for sure!!

Gary, April 2009
I have an 53 plate Renault Megane, drivers side back window is stuck about 1.5" down can't get it back up, have tried the thing removing the fuses. Any other bright ideas?

Michelle Milne, April 2009
The daughters grand scenic rear passenger door had the exact problem rear passenger door which luckly was fixed by arnold under warrenty didnt know about this site at the time. Stig u know who are u should be so lucky. (sorry for stealing the quote kylie).

Renaults are great cars!! until the gremlins appear, yes I too have a window that will not work. Also locking door buttons are now playing up as well. great!!!!!!!!!

Darren, April 2009
Had same problem with driver's side front window winding itself down when I deadlocked the car, then not winding up again. For the first few times, I was able to just start the engine and wind it up again but tonight it wouldn't go up no matter what. I followed the tip below and was able to close it two inches at a time. Incase it helps others - here's what I did:

1. Sit in car unlocked
2. Open glove box and remove the top of the two white 25A fuses (bottom of the two is passenger side).
3. Re-inserted fuse.
4. Double clicked button on keycard to deadlock car. Window went up 2 inches.
5. Opened car with keycard and repeated steps 2-4 until window was closed.

AndyP, March 2009
Hi,
Just had the same problem - back passenger side window went down when I deadlocked the vehicle. I tried the removal of the fuse and deadlocking procedure, but to no avail.
Then I rememberd that soon after I bought the car, I had a similar problem which was solved by the AA repairman. He disconnected the positive battery terminal, waited a few seconds, reconnected it and deadlocked the vehicle, causing the window to close a few inches. Repeating this process (about six or seven times) closed the window. I have just done this, and the window is closed. So if you need to close the window, this process seems to work.

Michael, March 2009
Rear off side window stuck down last week. £307 for arnold to repair it. Phoned Renault who said they would pay 20%. Sorted. Three days later drivers window went down when i locked the car and wouldn't go back up. Then i found this site, tried removing the lower 25amp fuse and locking car, happy to report the window went up about 2", so after about eight attempts the window was up. Tried holding both front switches in up position to reset, no joy. Tried again next day and it worked, window down, window up, window down. So there i was driving along happy as Larry (whoever he is) when suddenly the dammed thing went up of its own acord. Now it seems to have died, but at least it up. Will report back any more issues.

STIG, March 2009
im having the same problem only trouble is ive done the fuse part but when i deadlock the car my window on the driver side goes down so im stuck now..

mark, March 2009
passenger side window suddenly decided to open when i was away from vehicle - thanks renault! - thanks to all advice here - if found removing and replacing the bottom white fuse and then deadlocking twice was what worked but not sure how long this will last!

jem, March 2009
if you have this problem more than once the best thing to do is to take your car out of town and in to a feild then smash all the windows and pore petrol on the seats and set fire to it then get a lift back to your house and go to bed when you wake in the morning and look outside u relise that some one has nicked your car so get on to you inssurance company and get the cash for it problem solved

the fixer, March 2009
check your drivers manual. it tells you in there how to fix the common problem of windows not working. you need to hold both window switches in the up position for about 20 secs. this should cure some of the window problems where the window opens/closes intermittently.

minky58, March 2009
My wife has had the problem with the rear nearside window opening when she left the car parked up. Will try the fuse solution. If anyone has a problem with the wire in the regulator, there is a replacement kit you can get on EBAY for £19.99 with full instructions.

Hope this is of use.......Dave

Dave., March 2009
I have just had the same problem with my 04 Megane rear window which just came down and stuck there. After a few hours driving the window finally went up but not confident that it will stay up. I will try the fuse solution if it happens again.

Gordon, February 2009
I have same problem with Drivers window, has been fixed before less than 2 months ago and a right bodge up of the sealing around the electrics.... and at a Renault Main Dealer. Last renault I will ever own.
I thought I was going Mad when the window went down and up on its own and no one believed me.

Peter H, February 2009
I have an 04 megane and this has happened to the rear windows three times, twice on passenger side, once on driver side. My mechanic took the door panel off and wedged the window up with a piece of wood, then a few days later heard a noise from the window as though the motor had come back on, and the window has fixed itself every time????

Karla, January 2009
Just had the same prob with driver's window.Double locked doors with door handle button, doors locked but driver's window went down on it's own.Switch is not working and no sound of electric motor working.Tried the solution of pulling out the 25amp fuse then double locking doors with key(see Mark's reply Aug 08,drivers side fuse is the top one of the two).YES it works takes about 6 goes but the window is up.
NB I have 54 reg megane
Hope this helps

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO RENAULT * TRY THIS FIRST

I've had this problem twice now in 3 months!
I bought a second hand 2004 Renault Megane Sport Saloon from a private dealer and was wise enough to contact the previous owner from new! Who informed me about this vehicles history. The previous owner informed me that this vehicle in 4 years has had both front windows replaced [ 5 ] times!!!!! and Renault had to provide previous owner with an extended 1-year warranty due to the windows problem.

I had this problem 2 weeks into owning this vehicle and contacted Renault advising them of the vehicles history [they didn't like this!] - However, when I asked for help due to them already fixing this issue many times before on this vehicle, they said NO [helpdesk staff do not like to put you through to a line manager] when you wish to take the issue further!!!

Thankfully, because i already new about the vehicles history the new garage who I bought vehicle from provided me with a 3 months warranty and thus issue was resolved via an auto electrician. Renault helpdesk wanted me to take vehicle to a dealership [and nobody else] and pay for a diagnostic report at a cost of £80.

Current day [09/10/2008]
However, three months on and again this issue has happened again with the new window motor!!!
I decided to resolve this myself! Tried to open the speaker area of the door to pull the power lead off the motor to reset the motor and was unsuccessful!

Anyway, tried something a little different removed the [lower white 25amp fuse in the middle] from below the passenger side glove compartment and nothing worked!

Then locked door twice [deadbolt] and then unlocked doors, removed the [lower white 25 amp fuse in the middle] and put back in and started engine [pain] and tried again and all works ok!!!!!

The moral of the story is ....... DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE CAR DEALER UNTIL YOU GIVE IT A TRY FOR YOUR SELF!!!

Wiggy_wooo, October 2008
Hi,

I have a 52 reg Megane (new shape) which i bought 2 years ago. The drivers side front regulator broke within a week of me having the car and was fixed under warranty. This week the same has happened to the passenger side!! like somebody said above, it is a small plastic clip that breaks but unfortunately the whole regulator is tensioned and once these clips break you need to shell out for a new regulator which i am having done today at renault at a cost of £175 plus £150 labour! it seems that this fault is very common with the Megane. Does anybody know whether this is the same with other Renault vehicles? Sorry for the essay :D

Unhappy Megane Owner :(, October 2008
i've got this problem with passenger front window down - how do i get the inner door panel off - do you require allen keys????? please help

kay, September 2008
no 5 year guarrantee.......and renault even deny they have a problem!!!!

Jazz, September 2008
if you want to just close the window then take the anti theft mechanism of the rear passenger motor (only 1 screw and 2clips, might need a small screw driver) and swap with the faulty one and hey presto.

sion, September 2008
I had this problem, quick fix is to remove the fuse for the electric window (inside glove box, bottom one of 2 is passenger side) then double lock on the key; the window will raise 2". So keep doing until window all the way up, remember to unlock each time before removing fuse.
Went to Renault, although less than 4 years old, mileage too high so will not replace under warranty. The window has fallen down again since, removed fuse again to fix. Now going to place a piece of wood inside door to fix closed. Finding it hard to remove door trim, can't get the last bolt in the middle!!! Any ideas ???

Mark, August 2008
We have an 03 megane passenger window motor replaced last year and guess what ,the driver side electric window motor has now failed as well.
Quoted cost £188 plus vat for the motor and £50 plus vat for labour!!

Tony P, August 2008
Had same problem on sons Megane it turned out to be small white nylon clips that hold the outer cable for the window mechanism. Have not got parts yet to fix the problem (if you can get them?)

Mick, August 2008
My passenger door electric window came down on it's own today whilst I was in Tesco's. It will not go back up. Luckily no thieves around !!!!

What do I do to fix it ?

Mark, August 2008
Gaynor - any joy on that warranty on the windows? I've just had exactly the OP's issue on my 53 Megane!

Justin, August 2008
it will be thew switch or it may have comfort controll (stops if jammed ) lube rubbers and check switch

I have had 04 reg Megane from new and in addition to the original window winders have had 8 replacements on all windows at different times, the windows have trouble opening and shutting and then when the car has been parked and locked I have returned to find a window has opened on its own!! Been told Renault are aware and there is a 5 year warranty on the window - checking this out with Renault Customer Services at the moment.
