what is wrong with my gearbox? ford escort estate N Plate?

My escort will not go in to 5th gear or revese. All other gears are fine and no problems with the clutch. Is it something to do with the gear linkage, can I mend it myself?

yes you can put the car in neutral disconnect the linkage make sure the gearbox is in the neutral position and the same with the gear stick then reconnect them that should work.

guessing here that its been a long time between gbox oil changes.levels drop and unfortunatly 5 and reverse shafts run dry first .dif bearings last.try dropping the oil and refilling with correct ammount/grade.
