i bought a second hand wing mirror for my 2000, 328ci coupe bmw, but the triangle backing plate that fits against the outside of the door is a dull black colour, where as my original one is a shiny high gloss colour. can i swop the two backing plates, if so, how do i remove them from the mirror.

sorry but the backing plate is all part of the mirror body and comes attached from the factory. the mirror body (base plate) comes with the backing plate and the motor fitted and costs approx £150 thats with the shiny high gloss backing plate, its cheaper for the non gloss plate. to change mine, i drilled out the plastic rivets that hold the backing plate in place, then cut out a small section of the plate to let it slide of the mirror body, and then glued the plate on to my replacement mirror body. worked a treat, be sure to use good strong glue, not that the plate is heavy but to ensure it doesnt come of and you have to do it all over again.
