how can i find out if my battery or glow plugs need changing?

Hi my ex has left me in debt for i van i got him a loan for, it has a problem!!! it is very sluggish and slow to turn over but out of nowhere fires and its ok. it does this everytime i start it and its getting to the point i know its just not gonna start 1 day then i will never sell it!!!is it the battery or glow plugs!!! i,m at my wits end and would appreciate any advice.it is a fiat doblo cargo van 2002 kind regards

not glow plugs.get another vehicle and jumpleads.follow this exactly.doner car,connect jumpleads to battery,ur van bat+from doner to your bat+,bat- from doner to your engine metal,must be clean metal.run doner fo 2 mins then try yours.if it spins faster and starts then either your battery is screwed or your battery clamps/earth are faulty.to test earth clamps,connect battery-on ur van to engine metal on ur van using one jumplead,if it spins faster then u have an earth fault.if none of the above works then starter is probably faulty.
