John P, July 2015
I have a 2001 almera tino my airbag light has been on for about 5years has always passed the mot this year it has failed. I have tried all the tips but the light is still on and will not flash any ideas ? This is the only thing it has failed on !

Terry w, December 2014
Had a slightly different problem: when turning the ignition, the airbag warning light stayed on without blinking. Tried following the sequence but it didn't work of course, and I wasted some time unclicking and re-connecting the yellow cables under the seats, and disconnecting and reconnecting the battery all to no avail. Then I emptied the glove box completely and next tried quickly jabbing the button on the inside of the driver door for a few seconds and because of this, for the first time the airbag light started to blink. I knew now it was in the right state for the sequence mentioned (it has to be fairly exact) and it worked. Thanks.

Peter 2014, December 2014
Brilliant!!! Took a few tries - found similar info in other blogs but they didn't mention turning off before the alarm starts flashing - you're a total star - thank you thank you THANK YOU...!!!!

Thank you. Worked a treat on my 2006 almera SVE. I copy below Honestwelsh's solution from the start of the blog way back in 2008.-

try this and promise to put a pound in the next cancer box you pass.

Ignition on till airbag light goes off briefly (approx 7 seconds) immediately after airbag light goes out, turn ignition off for 3 seconds ie 0-1-2-3 or 1-2-3-4 then turn ignition back on, do this three times, after doing this, turn the ignition on for 1 second, and immediately turn ignition off, then back on again and start the car, this resets the air bag memory that nobody wants to tell you about how to fix, enjoy the rest of the 69 pound i have saved you, HONESTWELSH

jo blackmore, January 2012
The following method resolved the issue of the flashing airbag light of my Nissan Almera .

Here is the method how to reset the airbag module.
1, Switch ignition to ON and then wait for the airbag light to go out then switch the ignition off. (don't let airbag lamp to start flashing ON and OFF)
2. Wait for 4 seconds counting, like 21, 22, 23, 24.
3. Repeat step 1, and step 2 three (3) times.
4. Switch ignition to ON for 1 second then OFF.

Thanks, for this page!

DuboZsolt, December 2011
thanks it fixed my airbag light also

R Gregory, November 2011
had the same problem on my 1.8 2005 almera se. tried the ignition on/off method with no luck checked the under seat connections they seemed ok, in the end just disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes, and that did the trick.

bretty1964, November 2011
Worked first time on my Almera SE+ 03 plate 1.8
And here is a quick how to do it.
1, Switch ignition to ON and then wait for the light to go out then switch to off the moment it does (dont let it start flashing on and off)
2, Repeat step 1, three (3) times BUT each time you must count 4 seconds before repeating step 1.
3, After doing step 1, and 2 switch ignition to ON for 1 second then OFF this will then reset your airbag module.

Peter (M0JFK), November 2011
We have had the airbag warning lights go off 4 times.. On the first osccasion the dealer reset it , the second time they put a modification under the driver's seat...supposed to be a longer wiring harness..the third time they charged me £135 to put in a new elongated ??harness under the passenger seat and the forth time they renewed the previous modification harness on the drivers side.. with the advice from them that if it recurrs, they will more than likely change the airbag?? They kept the car for a good hour but from my observation they had done the work in about 10 minutes and despite me telling the desk the mechanic had already done the job,,, they fobbed me off until one hour had elapsed... a bit of a con at garages I guess... so that they can charge for an hours labour... beware... We will try out the FIX next time the airbag warning light comes on..thanks for the advice..
Question: will hard wiring as some have suggested solve the problem and is it advisable..?

Roverram, October 2011
honestwelsh,

glad to add another successful feedback here.

it worked on my 53 se.

thanks

longdali, September 2011
I have a 2004 Almera Tino, and i really cant get this reset sequence to work.....initially it says the warning will only remain on the screen for 7secs and then i should turn off the ignition, but my warning stays on (it does not go off after any period of time)......is there something else i can try, or am i doing something wrong?

Billbhoy, September 2011

Had a flashing airbag warning light after the snowfalls in December 2010. Followed your instructions:
Ign. On -wait for light off afeter 7 seconds and then before 1st flash turn off ign. then count to 3 and switch on.
Repeat two more times (3 in total).
After third time switch on ign. for 1 second then switch off. Switch on again and this time you can start the car.
Airbag reset first time.
Excellent - thanks.

Fix worked on second attempt on my almera 1.8 se saloon. Money in cancer box.

coyote, October 2010
the nissan airbag problem is a very old one and a very painful act. if you google this problem you will allsorts of answers, the most tested one is the ignition exercise, turning off and on the ignition and waiting the light to go away, well in fact it does after you have fixed the airbag problem, the main problem with primera p12 is that it has sensors under the driver and passenger seats which connets the airbags, this connection over the period of time wears away, to fix this it has to be tightened and if that does not work then the connection has to be cut and connected manually. after that the ignition exercise can be repeated, this is how if fixed the problem, under the seat find the connection and then ignition exercise.

wasim anwar from norway, September 2010

A Z, August 2010
Sorry, I'm trying to follow this discussion as to what I should do but can't quite. I bought a 2004 Nissan Almera yesterday and noticed the light about 20 mins from the dealer's travelling on the Motorway. Too lazy to go back.

SW, July 2010
did not leave ignition on long enough between the 3 secs it was switched off - but once i left it one for the 7 secs each time - it worked perfect. many thanks another happy customer and another donation

Hils, July 2010
Fantastic, it just worked on my Almera from 2005.

Maarten (NL), July 2010
will - leeds ...

Persevere - the sequence and timing has to be exact. I've done this three or four times, due to my tall lanky sone shifting the seat from my usual position. Even though I know the procedure, I never get it right first or second try. The fault usually occurs when adjusting the height of the seat rather than the rake - but the fix works without fiddling with the sensor, which is hard to access

LaughingFeet, July 2010
Many thanks worked 1st time on my Nissan 2006 Almera
This has saved me money not having to take it to my local garage.

paul b, July 2010

This was fantastic. Only took me two attempts! Put £2 in MacMillan Nurse collection box the day before I tried it as I was THAT confident. Oh, and I also emptied out most of the detritus from the glove box before starting.

Des Lavender, December 2009
It worked a treat, many thanks. I mentioned it to the Garage (Nissan) and they wanted to book the car in !!!!!! and to think that they would have charged me for something that takes 20 Sec to put right.

Just tried this on a 2006 primera, had to switch on and off 5 times but worked a treat thanks

MD, October 2009
Turn on engine wait for airbag light to go out turn of engine count to 3 and do the same 3 times .Turn engine back on for 1 second then of back on and start

LJ, September 2009
Please turn the ignition on till airbag warning lamp goes out (approx 7 seconds) Immediately after airbag warning lamp goes out, turn ignition off for 3 seconds i.e. 0-1-2-3 or 1-2-3-4 (either way its 3 seconds) then turn ignition back on, Do this 3 times, after carrying out the above, turn the ignition on for 1 second and immediately turn ignition off, then back on again and start car, this resets the airbag memory. Make sure the under seat connectors are ok.
Hope this helps.

Shahid, September 2009

tolga OLGUN, May 2009
Can't thank You enough.

Have had this problem twice now, was fixed first time under warranty and this time my wife was going to book the car into Nissan for them to look at, (it would have cost us £70.00 plus).

Only Problem is my wife found this answer and fixed the car while I was at work. Now I'll never hear the end of it. :-)

Will be sure to put some money to Your cause.

Thanks again

Flan, April 2009
that does the warning light mean which has a car with key in the middle???

jas, April 2009
honestwelsh, your tip from August 2008, what a result. Airbag warning light appeared all of a sudden on my 2004 Tino. Your advice fixed it first time. This is after Nissan main dealer wanted £85 to plug the car into their diagnostic computer.

goldfish, April 2009
dropping the seat back to quickly causes the light to come on, this has happened twice since had car. Luckily my dealer fixed it for free each time

ken, April 2009
everyoneis reffering to what honestwelsh said to do. I an't find his answer, could someone tell me pls?

willie, April 2009
I tried the suggestion by honestwelsh last night. The warning light continued to flash even after trying the ignition sequence. However this morning when I went to drive my car the airbag warning light had reset itself. Thankyou for such great information, makes life somewhat less stressful.

Shelley, March 2009
Excellent fix......mechanic told me the problem was related to shoving too much stuff into the glove compartment......there's a small flap in there, that if you open it by mistake causes the light to come on. Nissan price to diagnose at € 75.00.....€20 euro in my local collection box.

alan Jones, February 2009
Thanks, worked a treat. Will give some money to charity.

S.S.Bahra, December 2008

HappyMike, December 2008
Thanks HONEST WELSH - £1 will be going into next cancer box I see - maybe a bit more.

Worked on my 2005 Almera 1.5 SE.

OnDee, December 2008
tried it on a 2001 almera and it worked. Thanks a lot

mark d, November 2008
Just done it in the garage and now OK. It seems that this model 1.8 04/05 cars this is common fault and is usually one of the side bags in the front seat. So if you can accept this, a good solution. Extra pound for the next few weeks with all my loose change that I put in the McMillan box every week.
Even if you have the fault repaired by Nissan no guarantee it won't come back.

Geoff L, November 2008
tried that method didnt work in the renault espace

martin, November 2008
Fantastic....Just tried this 'fix' and it worked 1st time. Hopefully the airbag light will stay off....£1 in the next charity box !!! Many Thanks. Steve

My airbag light has also been flashing. I will try and reset the memory as suggested. However, if it is flashing surely it is flashing as there is a problem with the pre-tensioner on the seat belt which also needs looking at??

If this remains faulty, will the airbag inflate as it is supposed to?

My air bag light was on for the MOT it doesnt fail for that, but they add in a coment about it to make you aware of it.

try this and promise to put a pound in the next cancer box you pass,
ignition on till airbag light goes off briefly (approx 7 seconds) immediately after airbag light goes out, turn ignition off for 3 seconds ie 0-1-2-3 or 1-2-3-4 then turn ignition back on, do this three times, after doing this, turn the ignition on for 1 second, and immediately turn ignition off, then back on again and start the car, this resets the air bag memory that nobody wants to tell you about how to fix, enjoy the rest of the 69 pound i have saved you, HONESTWELSH

Mine started flashing a couple of days ago. I guess it's still OK to drive, but will it fail the MOT? Owner's manual says take it straight to the Nissan dealer, but as you say, we'll have to pay through the nose.
