How do I reset the immobilser on my 1996 Megane?

I have the immobiliser code for my car but am not sure how I am supposed to reset the immobiliser. At the moment I am unable to start my car. I think I have to switch the ignition on and lock the doors using teh switch on the dash and then do something to enter the code.

Please can any one advise

When you have the 4 digit emergency code:-
1-Turn on ignition (dash lights on), hold central locking button down. Red immo light flashes slowly, count number of 1st digit of immo code and release.
2- hold down central locking button and count 2nd digit and release
3- repeat for 3rd and 4th digits
4- when all numbers entered, ignition off and hold down central locking button. Immo light should remain constant. Remove key from ignition, point it towards the interior mirror (which houses the infra-red sensor) press key on/off quickly. Hopefully 'plip' will resynch.
Once immo light starts flashing turn -ign on/off and hold c/l button down again until red light remains constant and try again, it may take a few goes.

NOTES -
You should be able to start the car after step 3 if you have entered the code correctly, so ignore step 4 if you just want to get the car going. However, you will then have to re-enter the code every time the engine is stopped for more than 10 minutes.

If you make a mistake when entering the code just turn the ignition off to cancel then turn it back on and start again.

After three failed attempts you will have to wait 15 minutes then you get another three attempts and so on.
