have picked up a 1994 gs400er non runner as a project, seller told me it had carb trouble he thought, got it going but it either ticks over for a bit then cuts out or cuts out if you try to rev it,next thing it was starting on the button but shooting up to about 6000 rpm and then letting you rev it beyond that. then back to being difficult to start and so on

hi andy ,check the fuel supply,i have had the same bike with same problem, there's a vacuum pipe that allow's the fuel throught this was the problem very fine pin hole in this pipe,best of luck
