I own a older lawn mower with a briggs & straton 16hp engine. Model 402707 type: 1212 01. The engine will start but stalls after a few seconds. The fuel is getting to the carburator and I replaced the spark plugs. Any suggestions on what to check or what the problem maybe?
Good advice - except this engine has no diaphagm! I do agree that it's a carb problem though - a good clean wll probably sort it.

Even though you say fuel is getting to the carb renew the carb diaphram. These are perishable when left wet ie with fuel in the tank over winter, and one tiny pin prick hole will mess up the running .Diaphrams cost little and fix 90% of starting/running faults.Chances are it's never been renewed.
