when i open the door and the headlights are on the alarm to warn me does not come on, so i end leaving my lights on if i dont notice them

Hard to answer without a make ect.....However the sounder unit is normally positioned on a relay/fuse board for example on the older mondeos its on the board under the glove box. Best bet is to locate yours, go to a scrap yard once you now where your looking for it and get afew, if the old one does'nt work after being taken out cleaned and put back.
