i'm guessing the starter needs replacing or cleaning out but do these vans have them lousy dual mass fly wheels which screw the starter up? its one problem after another with this van. thanks in advance!
cheers, turned out that the earth brush had stuck in and wasn't touching the armature thing, cleaned out (not much if any dust) then proceded to break the end cap so i got a new starter off ebay £72 delivered! works a treat!

Sounds like common starter failure.Only way I can see d/m screwing it up would be exess ring gear run out and thers no way to mistake that sound!Take it out and bench test it.
