the engine light on my ford focus is staying on, what could be the problem?

Today whilst i was driving my 2001 ford focus 1.4 zetec the engine light came on and stayed on. What sort of problem could this indicate?

Could be that the Cat Converter is running at low efficiency.

If your engine misfires this can damage the Cat which would in turn damage your wallet to the tune of £300.

This could easily occur as a consequence of over tightening the spark plugs and cracking the ceramic insulator to which no garage will own up to.

Secret Squirrel, April 2009
it could be a number of problems
1.might be low oil or sterring fluid
2.epu (onboad computer has detected a problem) if so on way to rectifie this is to take it to an autoelectrision and he will diagniose the proplem an fix it.
3. or the engine is getting too hot and you need to top up the water in the radiator.
hope this helps
