Hello there,

I purchased a 2nd hand Dyson DC05 on Ebay,
I got told it was all cleaned and working fine, so I plugged in and started, and roughly 10 seconds later it smelled like it burning and it switched off. I couldn't get it going after that.
would you have any idea what the fault could be and how I could dismantle the Dyson DC05 and repair it ?

I have ordered the cyclone assembly because the carry handle has broken. How do I remove the plastic plugs which act as the pivots onto the main body. I assume they need prising out but would appreciate guidance please

Hi, The most likely cause is a burnt out motor for detailed instructions on changing the motor just go to www.dyson-online.com and look at their technical advice section. The site is fantastic! Good luck.

acrid burning smell means new motor needed. Dyson repair would be £55 inc parts, labour and call out.

We have the same fault. It is likely that there has been a build up of dust which has caused the motor to burn out. You could investigate by taking the cleaner apart (see http://www.morganskinner.com/blog/default.aspx?date=2005-05-19 for details!) and clean up the motor. You could get hold of a replacement motor or alternatively visit the local rubbish dump to see if someone else has unnecessarily discarded a DC05. I am away to try this now!
