Oil leak on Ford Focus Black (2001) Zetec SE engine?

Would really appreciate any advice before I head off to a garage and get handed a large bill.

Oil seems to be leaking from a whilte cylindrical fixing called the oil filter (I'm no expert, that's what's written on the side!). Can anyone tell me, is it as obvious as being a problem with the oil filter itself or could it be something more serious?

How I wish I became a mechanic :(

shouldnt be a problem,i would try and tighten it first as it might just have come loose, simply get hold with both hands if you can and turn it clockwise as you look at it until its tight,i,e it wont turn any further wipe off the surrounding area start and run the engine and see if it solves the problem,if not the filters dont cost much, maybe less than £10 but get a garage to change it as there will be some oil loss from the old one, hope this helps
