Renault laguna II 2001 sport tourer -ABS light comes on?

The ABS/ESP light has just come on. A main dealer has briefly looked at the diagnostics and said it could be the ABS pump. I have been told this is a very expensive part which can only be fixed by the main dealer.
Are there any alternatives, ie - tests I can do myself, work-arounds, find a reconditioned pump, fix and fit the pump myself.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Bear in mind if you do fit the pump yourself, you will need to have the Brake Lines pressure bled other wise you will end up with Air in the ABS Control Unit

The dealer can plug into the diagnostic port and determine the actual fault code and fault, then price you for repair or at least advise the problem so you can look elsewhere for quotes or self-fix.
Once the problme is fixed the dealer may need to reset the ABS ECU anyway and often charge more than £50 for this, free OBD2 (the diag port) software won't work because none of them can access the renault ABS part of the ECU, hence they can't reset the lamp.
Best net is ask the dealer to investigate and advise you prior to any fix with a diagnosis and price, if it's under £200 let them do it as it'll cost you for parts and reset anyway (and once they quote they have to resolve it if they do the work).
Best of luck!
