I understand and know your problem very well, as I have had the same problem myself. it is not the carburetor however, it is known as a spark knock. when you accelerate quickly you get this sort of pinging sound which seems to be coming from the carburetor because it is the most likely place. thats not it at all, you just need to use a higher grade of gasoline or you could use an octane booster in your gasoline when you refill your fuel tank. some times you can on certian vehicles adjust the timing to offset this problem. try each and you will find your problem will go away. hope this helps you.

Sounds like you might have pinking or pre ignition, get your carb settings and ignition timing checked as long term it can cause damage.

I would suspect that the diaphram is faulty, at the time overhaull kits were so cheap(£4-6)Sop was to replace all kit parts.solved 90% of all carb faults. These days I'd sugest local indipendant motor spares shop's would likely have some still in stock.Diy job, maybe 45 min's.
