Transit immobiliser?

R reg tranny died while driving - pulled over, turned off key, waited 10sec restarted, ran for about 1 second, stopped again. Little red LED above rear view mirror flashing like crazy (never seen that before). But now starter motor doesnt turn or click or anything. Ignition lights dont dim or anything. Plenty of diesel, battery good (tried jump leads from another car just to be sure).
I thought the immobiliser just killed the fuel cut-off.. does it inhibit the starter as well?
Anyway, thanks to anyone who can help, cheers, Mark

had a look on the transit forum (and spent over two hours reading lots of posts that say "bypass procedure is definitely on here somewhere..." but not being able to find it) anyway, the flash code is 32 - RIM fault. No idea what a RIM is, but what would you recommend.. buying a new RIM or doing the bypass thing? How much is a new RIM, what else is involved like new keys (new van.. )? I am a cynic who firmly believes that most anti thief devices dont stop real thieves, only owners! and judging by the amount of posts you guys get along the same lines, it looks like these things pack up for a pastime, so I'm in favour of ripping the whole bag o' sh*te out. That said, I couldnt find the mysterious little black wire that comes out of the back of the pump - mine has 3 wires: white/red, brown, black/violet.
Very grateful for the advice, by the way, (and would be happy to pay for it if there was some kind of mechanism to allow that... food for thought perhaps)
thanks, Mark
