How to change starter clutch on 9HP B&S?

I have a Snapper with a 9hp B&S; model 28B702; code 1154; built in '98. Replacing part #399671, starter clutch. After removing the blower assy, screen, etc...do I need a puller? Where do I apply the pressure...below the starter clutch or what? Thx!

Phil,
Thx so much for the reply! Sorry to seem dense, but what's a drift? And the screws that hold the screen on go into the body of the starter clutch; they don't seem to be holding anything together.

If the starter clutch is a square (ish) shaft, the whole assembly unscrews. You will either need a special socket that fits over the clutch, or you can knock it round using a drift on the lugs. Remove the screen for access, then RE-INSTALL the small screws that hold the screen on before attacking it with the drift. If you dont, the clutch will fall apart (not the end of the world, but a real pain).

Let me know if you still have problems.

Phil,
It's a rewind/recoil starter. Any advice?
Thx!
