what's wrong with my fridge freezer Hotpoint Ultima FFA97?

my fridge isn't cool enough and my freezer is getting frost (ICE) at the top .

The temperature of the fridge was on 5 degrees celcius so i reduced it to 4 which is what i thought it should be however it's not got any cooler. My freezer is showing -18, are these temperature's correct and could it be the thermostat.

My freezer appears to be leaking water I can see it running down the very bottom of freezer at the bottom causing frozen ice and water leaking on the floor

I am hoping someone can tell me how to bring the temperature higher. Pressed the button to change temp, and it went from 3 (it had already decided for itself to go down from 4 degrees to 3), so now I am afraid to touch the button in case it goes down to 1 degree! Have lost a lettuc and a cucumber cos they got too cold, so far. :-( Any help would be great. thanks.

Had a similar problem with out hotpoint american style fridge freezer until i got in touch with www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk they service the london and surrey area they found that the problem was a faulty light switch.

i cleaned it ,when switching back my fridge the power, only red light come on the front display but green did not come on which indicate it's working.what can i do to solve the problem?

Thanks to these postings, and especially "fed up mick" I have now fixed mine having said that I am waiting for it to come back up to temperature. When I put it back on again there was an occasional bleeping sound which I think, was the warning to say that the temperature was too high, the only thing that is concerning me at the moment is the digital display keep showing a temperature of 8 deg. for the freezer, and does not seem to be changing despite the machine being on for a couple of hours, still will run it over night and see what it reads latter.

Yes I have seen this problem many a time. 99% sure there will be a blockage in the folopean tube between the condensor and cog manifold sprocket. The blockage has probably been caused my some produce escaping down the back of the fridge, perhaps a turnip or butter bean. Switch the appliance on and off at the wall 3 times and chant 'Bungle bear' and swith the unit back on.

I have a similar problem with the FFA97. The freezer keeps defrosting its self and is currently at -1. The fridge although it says on the display that its at 4c, it does feel a lot warmer. Going to follow your previous instructions. Had it 2 and half years, also have cooker (fixed twice in the 2 half years) and washing machine (fixed once in 2 and half years) all are Hotpoint Ultimas. I know what I won't be buying next time!!!

Had to do this to mine twice, 1st time the engineer did it under warranty, just done it myself, easy job, took 15 mins but the screws are star drive not philips.

The engineer did say that this can happen if the door isnt closed properly so maybe one of the kids didnt close it properly when they were foraging for ice cream!

had the same problem myself last year. there will be a big lump of ice formed over the vent in the freezer. you need to turn off fridge and leave to defrost. although you cant see the blockage, it has probably stuck to the pipes behind the removable plastic part in the freezer. once you remove the 8 screws, gently try to slide the plastic out. if it appears stuck, leave it a while otherwise you risk damaging the flimsy pipes behind. when you do get it out there will be ice blocking the vent. use a hairdryer to remove.( same as what the repair guy did to mine ) once all the ice is cleared blow some air up the bottom vent and feel is it coming out the vent in the middle of the fridge. this will tell you if its clear. also check the plastic cover you removed for ice and remove any you find. once everything is clear and dry, reassemble and turn back on your fridge. this should sort your problem out. the same thing happened me last year and last week. i googled this type of fridge any this problem is all too common. if it happens again i will probably just scrap the fridge rather than pass on this piece of crap to someone else. not what you expect for a fridge thats just over a year old. to sum it up.... this fridge is like some of the boy racers cars ; looks impressive but probably goes like s***.
