Kohler Engine CV16s Gas leaking from exhaust Pipe?

Hope you can help. My Kohler Engine CV16s leaks gas after sitting for a while from the exhaust pipe. If I disconnect the exhaust pipe from the muffler and crank the engine the gas comes out. I can then run the engine with no problem. It seems like a very small leak somewhere.
Can you assist me as to where to look first.

Thanks Tom

Add an inline fuel shut off valve

I have this same problem with a CV15T, to the best of my
understanding the gas is leaking through the carburetor...
Although a rebuild kit might fix it, certain parts personnel
recommended I get a new one, which we never got to the
price part but I know they start at 75 dollars and can run
well over 200...

My solution, turn the fuel shut-off petcock to OFF every
single time after the machine is done being used.

One or the other...
