How can I fix my craftsman 14.5 HP lawn tractor model 917.270513?

When attempting to start the engine the carburator begins to flood and gasoline pours out of the top of the carburator causing the engiine to stall. There is a small solenoid under the float bowl and I would like to know what that does. The mower was running fine prior to this problem and the fuel is fresh. the model number of the engine 287707 Briggs and Stratton type number 1255-E1

you need to tahe apart the carb and see if the float has a hole or sounds if it has liquid in it and cleen the needle. If u need any help doing this feel free to call me on my cell at (989)-494-9426

sounds like the needle is dirty in the carb. you need to take apart the carb, remove the float and needle. blow through it.
Could be just varnish making it stick. Easiest thing would be to shut of gas, remove hose from carb. Take screw out of botom of carb holding the cup in place allow gas to drain out. Then squirt carb cleaner from auto stores into the hose going to the carb use lots let it soak overnight, drain again, turn gas on and try it.
Selinoid on bottom is a shut off, conected to safeties .
