It doesn't matter what kind of boiler you have, the answer to your question is a question in its' self.
do you have a claw foot tub or a shallow tub with a wall at the end of it is the question. the answer is you can replace the two tap set up you have with a shower manifold mixer if you have a wall at the drain end of your tub. if not you will have to replace the two tap set up you have with a faucet unit that incorporates the two taps into a sigle unit that will fit in the place the two tap set up now sits. you should go to your local home center and look at the units they have on desplay.

First thing to ensure is that both supplies of hot and cold are mains fed. If you are operating off of a combi boiler, then no doubt the answer will be yes.
In most cases the pipe centres on the standard bath are 180mm and all shower manufacturers are aware of this and provide products to suit. Also, standard practice is to have your hot supply on the left and the cold on the right (as you face the taps).
Next step is to consider if you want to have both the shower and the bath thermostatically controlled. Being on a combi boiler - I definitely recommend this at least on the shower valve.
Some can be individual such as Aqualisa's Aquamixa (quite a chunky full brass model) and still a favourite with quite a few of my clients or on the other end of the scale something from their new range - Midas. I haven't fited one of those yet, but they look pretty good and both the bath and shower are thermostatically controlled. Hope that this helps.
