fixed leaking carbs, but now bike wont stay running?

many thanks for all your help kirsty and caine for the advice, i am making progress because i have started the vehicle that was left in the garage for 2 years and no fuel is leaking,
now that i have got is started im hearing a loud noise from the top end of the engine only when the revs slow down or when i ease off the throttle. it doesn't make the noise at high revs.
if i leave the bike running on the choke, the rev slow down making that noise then cuts out.
should i change the oil and filter?

Quick easy check
Start the bike try keeping it running for about 30 sec -1 minute then switch off feel the exhaust headers (down pipes)comming off each cylinder if 1 cooler than the rest the bike is only running on 3 cylinders. might need a carb strip to rectify.
As a matter of course if a bike has been standing for more than 12 months you should replace engine oil and filter, new fuel in tank (clean internal fuel filter) and also put in nice new spark plugs and set to correct gap.

sounds like engine missfire, guessing u need to strip and clean the carbs,cr*p in the jets would be my bet.haynes manual gives procedure.not hard to strip,be systematic.check all jets and renew faulty diaphrams.

ok, apologise for the unclarity
iv only got the bike turning over today for 5min, by tapping the carbs float casing with a screwdriver end.
i fired her up and was reliefed that no fuel was leaking.
the bike wouldn't stay running if i had let go of the throttle, so i held the throttle at a relativily high rev that sounded fine but as i decreased on the throttle a loud noise is heard intermittantly from the engine.
i tried to leave the bike running on the choke but it doesn't like it, cuts out after a couple seconds.
i'll try again in the morning and will advise, i hoped for some pointers for tomorow when i will be speding some time again with the bike

oil/filter's cheap engine's dear,ga

always change oil.Bit confused about rest?wont run without choke?noise?u sure u got the carbs on right?if its sucking air thru missaligned rubber's,it wont run without choke.sames true if carbs still have junk inem.use a lenght of broom handle as a stethescope to listen round points on motor to pinpoint noise source, dont forget exhaust header gaskets, they can go loose on a standing bike.repost with more imfo
