How do I drain the fluid from the Auo transmission in my 1995 transit van?

When we disconnect the hose at the front we only get about four litres of fluid. I understand the gear box holds about 8 litres. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello chris the way to get the most oil out is to remove the whole sump from the gearbox all the 13mm bolts going round it.
Leave this off for about 10 mins to drain then you can if you want to get more oil out start the engine leave it running for about 15 to 20 seconds no more and do not rev the engine ,run it any longer or rev it and you will totally destroy your gearbox.I would suggest you get a new sump gasket and filter if your doing this job.
I would also recommend you put texaco dexron 3 automatic fluid in the gearbox.
To put the oil in and get the level right start the engine in park, leave it running then slowly pour the new oil in,keep checking the level otherwise you,ll over fill it and it will blow the oil out of the breather on the gearbox making a real mess.
