Anyone any ideas. I have a Toyota Lucida Estima 2.2td and the oil light on the dash flashes intermittently before new sensor was fitted and after new sensor was fitted. Even when the sensor is disconnected the light still flashes. Anyone else had a similar problem? Oil level checked and not over or underfilled.

on your dash front under your left clock you will see a little rubber grommet,lift off then through the little hole push a long thin screw driver,( I use a wooden skewer ) on to the little button ,push in then start the car,it will now be reset and go out,

constant oil level light on is oil low, flashing is too much oil, the oil light will also flash if the motor on the reserve tank is broken. under the bonnett is a oil resevoir - this is NOT where you top up the oil - the correct place to top up the engine oil and to check oil levels is under the inspection hatch underneath the passenger seat. the bottle under the bonnett is attatched to a sensor in the sump, when the sensor detects low levels of oil in th esump it sends a signal that goes to the pump on the bottom of this bottle and pumps oil into thye sump - if this pump is faulty it will show as a flashing oil light
oil change mentioned above doesnt come on ridiculously early, it comes on at the recommended number of miles wich in comparrison to newer cars is early but recommended changes are every 3k miles or every 6 month wichever comes around first and a new oil filter every other change - these are an old diesel engine and not upto that of the newer engines. they get very dirty very quick. it doesnt help having the egr valve adding to that too (exhaust gas recirculation).

got same problem but sussed the black box startup cycle included test of top-up oil motor.
So fitted a 10 ohm 5 watt resistor and prob disappeared remember if the black box calls for more oil it will put 12v on plug so 5W strapped to metalwork should suffice.
Could try a higher resistor , but 10 ohm was to hand.

There are two oil lights. One is to tell you it's time for a (ridiculously early) oil change and is reset by pushing a slim probe through the dashboard 'glass' via a rubber plug ( which is easy to push inside and lose forever), and the other is to warn you of too much or too little oil in the engine. This one usually fails and then flashes continuously.
It's sender sits inside the engine sump and consists of a float connected to a switch. The height of the oil level and thus the float either switches the flashing sequence, nothing, or 'on' continually. It is THAT sensor arrangement that is faulty.
You need to pull the sump off after draining the oil and replace or possibly repair/clean the float and switch arrangement... Or ignore it!

my estima lucidia 1994 has had oil level light flashing for over a year!does not affect car in any way,mechanic said just remove bulb,much cheaper option.

Remove the rubber plug on the dial pod then using a long fine screwdriver push the reset button ,this should do the trick

Had the exactly same problem with mine. Turn the engine off and back on again and it stops flashing? Spoke to me Bro-inlaw who works alongside Toyota, they say its a common problem with imports. They suggested either ignore it or take the bulb out. Not very technical.
