My small Mountfield petrol mower is making an awful rattling noise when running. Gets worse when actually cutting.

Can anyone explain what this might be, and if it is fixable.

Can you tell if it's the mower chassis, or the engine that's rattling?

Does it sound like something is loose? Machanical contact type noise?

Check the engine oil level. If engine has a dipstick, the level is marked.

If the engine has a plug at the base of the engine, fill to the top.

Thanks, checked the blade, but the rattle is still there.

Pull off the spark plug cap, to make it safe. Then turn it over and make sure the blade is tight.
