Hello, My 2001 Mondeo's power steering belt broke on the way home, I went to get another but had to order it in, have to wait until monday, I drove it back home and I lost power looked at the temp gauge and it was right on the red,Stopped let it cool off.Started again and went to red only when driving, it's ok at idle, I don't see the power steering belt not being on affecting the cooling or am I missing something, again I can't get the belt until monday so thought I would ask here if I might need to replace more parts, Would this be 2 different things I am dealing with now just happened almost at the same time..

The belt will cure your problem for now. However beware in the future if your water pump packs up. The water pump is driven by the Power Steering Pump by an intenal male/female shaft connector. At about 100,000 miles the shaft connection wears away and breaks up, meaning you need a new water pump plus a new power steering pump (even though the power steering pump is working fine). What a bad design!!! Cost is around £450 the pair plus VAT and Labour at a Ford Garage.

The belt is for the waterpump as well as the powersteering!!! you shouldn't drive it without the belt!!!

the power steering belt is VERY likely to also turn the water pump...water pump no turney...water no get pushed thru radiator...water get very hot...guage says red hot...continue & cylinder head gets warped..very costy costy, so its only 1 fault..the drive bely that snapped.
