This iron's on/off button will not turn on. I guess the switch is broken. It is an auto-off iron and when it clicked off all you had to do was push the button on again, unlike the newer irons that have to be unplugged and then plugged in again to turn them back on, which is a nuisance! The screw on the base is weird and I don't have a screwdriver that will fit. I can't find a small appliance repair service anywhere.

I suggest you discard the iron. I had this exact model and this year I noticed a "hot electrical" smell and internal sparking when I turned the iron on/off. I took it apart and it appears water had leaked down into the electrical connections, which were rusted. There were also frayed wires. I'm sending this piece of junk back to B&D with a note to the effect of "thanks for almost burning down my house."
