my Astra Envoy wont start?

I have a Astra Enovy 1700cc td ,It will not start ,the lights come on, when i turn the key the engin just clinks . It was driving ok befor this apart from the tappets were knocking (but not to bad) it just stoped. Thank you if you can help.

Either you'r batterys dead ,starter is faulty,or the engine earth strap has gone.Test by jump starting.if it starts with a jump,battery is gone.if it does'nt then connect bat- to engine earth with one jump lead.still no start ,then its starter moter fault.
