diesel repair?

i own a ford transit r reg i changed the diesel filter then found out that it was the lift pump .we had a boster running trying to start the engin .now i hav trouble starting the van and also. the starter turns slowley then speeds up somtimes .some times the batery will run flat but still not start

By replacing the fuel filter you got air in the system whick on a diesel is bad for starting but in the process of trying to get it started you could have fried the starter .....

Not a lot to go on here. But ,oil engines will not fire without sufficiant cranking speed, they rely on it.Without correct cranking speed the air is not compressed enough to raise the temp in the cylinder to the point where the injected fuel ignites.Tackle the slow speed first.I'd have the starter out for stripdown.Dont discount the head gasket,if its leaking then one or more cyl could be fluid locked, can give same symptoms.is the coolant level ok.
