Peugeot 406 1998 Petrol - Engine does not turn-off?

Hi,

I have a Peugeot 406 1.8 LX 1998 Petrol. The problem is that the engine does not turn-off when the ignition is switch off. I have checked the ignition switch and actuator and they are fine. The mechanic is saying that the ECU is faulty and this has to be checked by the Peugeot dealer. Since this is an old car, I don't want to spend more money. My questions are:
- Could it be the ECU fault?
- Is there a sensor which I can clean or replace which will fix this problem?
- Can I simply replace the ECU with the used part from the scrapyard, and would it work?

Thanks
Tim

you have to use computer diagnosis from dealers to establish the fault, otherwise electronic stuff does not tell if it's faulty by mere looking at it.406 is a complete electronic car regardless being made in 1998.
Yes if you get another ECU then you need to change the ignition as well as they work hand in hand.
the problem is that servicing vehicles sometimes becomes very expensive, but there is nothing beteer than maintaining the vehicle you cherish.
I have the same type ofvehicle

Hi Tim, I've had a look at the wiring diagrams for your car and the most obvious thing that I can see that would cause your problem is the if the main power control relay was sticking in the on position, it's mounted between the battery and the engine bulkhead if you would like a copy of the wiring diagram and the locations pictures contact me nige110162@hotmail.co.uk

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply. Do you know where this stop solenoid is? How can I check it? Can I clean it or do I have to replace it?

Thanks
Tim
